IN HIS LAST PRESS CONFERENCE OF THE SEASON. (Not the year, there may be another after the season) Kirk Ferentz talked about the upcoming game versus Nebraska (video and transcript).

  • Ferentz is playing to win Friday, not to play younger players
  • Damon Bullock is out
  • Ferentz thinks expansion is the nature of the business
  • Anthony Hitchens is back practicing
  • Ferentz isn't a fan of a nine game conference schedule (competitive balance)

THE PLAYERS SPOKE TOO. Friday is senior day for 19 Hawkeyes. Marc Morehouse caught up with some of those guys that will play their final game ever as a Hawkeye. Morehouse has video of Steve Bigach, James Vandenberg, Micah Hyde, James Ferentz, Keenan Davis, James Morris, Cole Fisher, and Tanner Miller.

LISA BLUDER'S TEAM REBOUNDS FROM LOSS TO NORTH CAROLINA. The Iowa women's basketball team was back on the court last night to face Robert Morris. The Hawkeyes worked the ball inside to Big Ten Player of the Week Morgan Johnson. She led the team with 19 points and 11 rebounds in the 58-44 win.

FRAN MCCAFFERY'S TEAM FORGOT TO PACK THE SUNSCREEN. The Hawkeye men's basketball team is getting some sun in Cancun and playing some basketball too. Iowa faced Western Kentucky last night in the semi-final game of the Cancun Challenge. Freshman Mike Gesell was the team's leading scorer with 19 points in the 63-55 victory. Iowa will face Wichita State tonight for the championship. Both Iowa and the Shockers are a perfect (5-0) on the season.

TOM BRANDS TALKED WRESTLING. Iowa will host SIU-Edwardsville, Cornell College and Iowa Central this Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Head wrestling coach Tom Brands took a minute to talk with the Cedar Rapids Gazette about his team's dual win last week and Saturday's dual.
