It's Not Plagiarism If You Link To It: Hawkeyes Escape Central Michigan

The game was a little closer than some thought it would be.

Chris Chambers

MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS 73-61. Give new Central Michigan coach Keno Davis credit, he did his homework. His Central Michigan Chippewa team played zone and forced Iowa to shoot out of it. Iowa was ice cold shooting, starting the game 1 for 7 from the field. A couple of Fran McCaffery's new faces heated up in the second half from beyond the three point line. Guard Mike Gesell hit 3 of 6 from three point land. He finished the game with 15 points. Anthony Clemmons hit two three pointers and played 15 minutes of the second half. Devyn Marble led the team with 18 points.

FRAN MCCAFFERY SPOKE AFTER THE GAME. Here's the transcript and video. I'll summarize:

  • Fran said his four guard attack was "just matching up to them"
  • He felt that group contained CMU's penetration better
  • Clemmons made a couple of mistakes but bounced right back
  • Fran calls Aaron White "Whitey"
  • Eric May is playing with confidence

IOWA FOOTBALL TAKES ON MICHIGAN SATURDAY (/GROAN). Here's the two-deeps. Conor Boffeli is your left guard this week. Jordan Walsh, Austin Blythe, Nolan MacMillan and Boffeli have all had a turn playing turnstile there since Brandon Scherff and Andrew Donnal left the Penn State game due to injury. Neither Mark Weisman nor Brad Rogers are listed at running back or fullback.

HERE'S THE GAME NOTES. Iowa has won three in-a-row versus Michigan. Vegas was slow to release the line due to Denard Robinson's status for the game. The earliest point spread has Michigan -20. The Wolverines are ranked in the lastes polls. They will be the first ranked team Iowa will face this season. Kickoff is set for 11:01 am (CST). The game will be televised on ESPN and your broadcast crew is Dave Pasch, Brian Griese and Jenn Brown.

EVEN IF DENARD DOESN'T PLAY. Michigan has moved Devin Gardner from quarterback to wide receiver and now back to quarterback. Gardner earned co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week last week for his effort against Northwestern. It was just his second start on the season. It's senior day in Ann Arbor. Expect Denard to play a role.

LET'S TALK RECRUITING. Usually reserved for the "other links" portion of INP, recruiting news gets a bump. Mostly due to Iowa's current roster and obvious lack of talent. "Notes from HawkeyeReport" has all the latest recruiting news and info. Iowa hosted several visitors last weekend, including a few top 2014 recruits. Still, no Randy Moss or Adrian Peterson on the list.
