INITIAL BLOGPOLL: WEEK 9

The assface of a champion.

Ohio State is the best team in the country. I'm not a Big 10 homer as evidenced by my previous polls and I don't even like Ohio State. In fact, it pains me to say this but after 9 weeks of football I'm convinced that they're the best team in college football this year. I certainly never thought I'd be in the position to argue in favor of the Buckeyes -- but here I am, standing before you, saying, Ohio State, I ch-ch-choose you.

From Gainesville to Baton Rouge you'll hear that the Buckeyes have no chance in a National Championship game against LSU. Another blowout! Let me dispel that myth with a few facts, rather than with rooting interest and conference bias:

  • LSU is a very good team -- but they're not the werewolf with a chainsaw for a dick that we thought they were a month ago. They have a staggering array of freaks to throw in at running back for any situation. They have the #12 Rushing Offense in the nation. They're fun to watch, but even with all of those wonderful toys, they do not have 1 guy that they can put in there who will consistently keep the chains moving. Hester has been great in short yardage but he's not that guy. Running back by committee won't get it done against tOSU, particularly when they can bring the safeties down into the box for run support. Without their ability to run, they'll be forced to throw the ball, which brings me to my next point.

  • Matt Flynn isn't very good. Over the course of the season he's been exposed as a guy who's unable to throw the football with any accuracy whatsoever when pressured. He's high, wide, and short. He's consistent with his inconsistency. His completion percentage is 55% when not facing the best defense in the country. You really think he can match that against the Buckeyes? No, he cannot.

  • Fact: Les Miles is mentally ill. I'm convinced of this now. You can say he has stones for the calls he's made but I don't think that's it. I really believe he's missing a chip and when it comes down to crunch time against a team that can match up with them mano-a-mano and he's facing a tough call against a great coach like Jim Tressel, he'll crack. This guy isn't who you think he is. Just watch him, he'll show you.

  • The SEC is the best conference in the country. I won't argue this point. I watch a lot of SEC football and from top to bottom it's the best. But the National Championship isn't a Big 10/SEC Challenge. Tebow won't be there. Darren McFadden won't be there. Greg Hardy won't be there. It's 2 teams, that's it. Based on what I've seen, Ohio State is a better team and they win that game.

As always, this is a rough draft for the poll this week. I'm open to suggestions and opinions, so let me hear it. Also, to you mouth-breathing Buckeye fans, I know, you're still not happy because I didn't talk about your offense so go ahead and leave your comments but let's go easy on the threats of assault this time, shall we?

I'm going to go vomit now.
