What is your favorite Iowa State memory?

To get the diaries rolling, I thought I'd share my favorite memory of a beat down versus Iowa State.

Mine dates back to the beginning of Iowa's dominance over Iowa State.  1983 was the first of 15 straight wins over Iowa State.  It was also the first of many games where Iowa put up 50 or more point against the Cyclones.  The bookend game in that run, I think it was 1997, was one where Tavian Banks went all crazy legs and ran for something like 200+ yards.

On a related note, is the Cyclones stadium still right next to a cornfield?  I haven't been to Ames in forever, but I seem to remember the stadium sitting right next to a farm on the outskirts of town.

Matt Williams new D-Back GM

I just read over at Baseball Prospectus that Matt Williams is going to be named GM replacing Joe Garagiola Jr.  I'm not sure what to make of Williams as a possible replacement.  He isn't a guy who I remember seeing on the lists of people most likely to become GMs in the near future.  I hope he doesn't decide to bring in a bunch of again vets and block the young guys coming up.

D-backs lose Drew

I found this via a diary at John Sickles' blog.  It looks as though Stephen Drew is signing with an Atlantic League team and will re-enter the draft in June.

I haven't followed the whole saga close enough to know if this is a surprise.  I do wonder why the D-backs would draft him knowing he would command a huge bonus and then not be willing to cough up the money?
