Gone Baby Gone

Well, that was inevitable:

Iowa receiver James Cleveland and backup quarterback Arvell Nelson have been dismissed from the team, coach Kirk Ferentz said Thursday.

Both were arrested on drug charges last month and had been suspended indefinitely.

"It’s disappointing anytime one of our players doesn’t complete his career with our team and go on to earn their degree from Iowa," Ferentz said. "That being said, we wish both James and Arvell success in the future."

The dismissals are hardly shocking; Nelson was allegedly caught red-handed with pot, and Cleveland is facing honest-to-goodness jail time (and that's not even mentioning the implications of last week's DMR report on the Douglas/Bowman affair).  More interesting, however, is the apparent end of CBI at Iowa.  Nelson and Cleveland are now gone, Douglas is literally eating money, and Bowman is not listed on the current roster.  I think we all know what that means...

Single tear...

Ok, that was so touching it just surpassed the "What a Wonderful World" scene/montage towards the end of "Good Morning, Vietnam" as the Part Bucketochicken Can't Watch Without Crying Every Time.
Bravo, my friends.  Bravo.

.

Seriously, BHGP is amazing, and it's an honor to post here.

AAARGH

Damn, you're right.  That's good.

Poor timing...

coming out this early, its going to be difficult to maintain the momentum to get the Oscar nomination for best short.  But, dare to dream fellas. Dare to dream.

Nick Nolte?

Well, there's a certain pathetic accumulated dumbness once one sits through the entire stream.  Justified or not, it appears that a concerted, long-term effort to achieve life-altering dumbness was underway.

Is there some meta-reference going on here with Nolte (North Dallas Forty?) I am too white and straight to comprehend?

You callin HS black and gay?

Also, first person to call HS "Feargal Sharkey" gets banned.

Holy shit, HS

I was in tears. And not from laughing, either. I miss them so goddamn much already.

ok, serious social commentary, now.

Is having a nickel bag on your desk in your home worse than business as usual in one of the fountains of capital (occupied by white people)?

Go Cubs

Well, one of the City Boyz is a Cubs fan. Maybe i'll see him at spring training.

Nice video. Very well done.  I will watch that before every game this season to get pumped up.  Better yet, this should be played at kinnick as the team comes out of the tunnel.

City Boyz 4 life, ya herd?

I will remember them

as I remember people with Flock of Seagulls haircuts.  They made pathetically bad choices and,  when viewing them as a spectator, look terribly stupid with shared feelings of humor and embarassment.

Like the FOS haircuts, the stupidity will not mellow with age.   Congrats, CBI, life IS a hustle.

Excellent video work, HS.

by hdhawk on Mar 7, 2008 1:14 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The question ?

A power vacuum has been created by their excommunication. Once this fire of stupidity has been ignited, it doesn't just quietly go out. CBI may be first, but they won't be last.

So, Hawkeye Nation - Who got next?

can we get through a comment thread

without at least one person "singing"?

THANKS.

Come on, Dave Matthews Band Megan

There's a heartfelt song right here in the post. How can you expect people not to get the warbler's itch?

[clears throat]

Up and down the puppies hair
Fleas and ticks jump everywhere
cause of original sin
Down the hill fell jack and jill
And you came tumbling after
cause of original sin
Rip away the tears
Drink a hope to happy years
And you may find
A lifetimes passed you by
What would you say
Dont drop the big one
If you a monkey on a string
Dont cut my lifeline
If you a doggie on a chain
Dont bite the mailman
What would you say

Nolte = Brilliant

Got a good chuckle out of the Nolte pic.  Good stuff.

"Why are you crying?

... and why are you wearing that old dress?"
"Because I just heard a song on the radio that reminded me of the way we were."
"What was it?"
"'The Way We Were.'"

Fortunate side effect of listening to that song is that now I have Wu-Tang stuck in my head.
