OFF THE RECORD

Sun Sep 16, 2007 at 11:35:58 PM EDT

I feel like a fucking traitor talking like this but jesus fuck, what's it gonna take for us to get a team to show up with some fire in their ass? It's not like it's been once or twice. This isn't an isolated incident. It's not a road thing either. Fuck, it's not even limited to a single season, since it's been going on for years. We show up flat more often than we show up with fire and I've had it. It comes from the top down, and Ferentz just doesn't do it. This fucking guy washes his hands after he goes to the bathroom, fuck, he probably fucking sits down to pee. You think Saban sits down to pee? I'm just done and I want a new coach. I don't want a coach that cries. I want a coach with a venereal disease. I want a coach with a mustache. I want a coach with an eye patch. I want a coach who screams at his players when they come to the sidelines. I want a coach who will rape your fucking parakeet if you run the wrong route. I want a coach with an accent so thick you can't understand a fucking thing he's saying when he gets worked up.  I want a fucking coach that answers a redundant question from Pat Harty by screaming YARRRRRRRRRRR!!! and storming out of the press conference. I want a coach who has chest pains when we lose. I want a coach filled with rage. I want a coach with bad teeth, bad suits, and a history of violence. I just want a new coach and I will never, ever, feel the same about Kirk Ferentz now that I've said all of this, because it's true. I do feel like a turncoat but I don't fucking care. This has been going on for 5 years and I haven't said shit. I'm done with his chino wearing, gum chewing, respectable ass. I want a mixture of Mike Leach, Stever Spurrier, and James Carville. I want a new coach.
Mother fucker.

  • Settle down... (none / 0)

    and have some dip.

Might want to delete all evidence of this.  It's embarrassing to read and too eerily similar to the douchebags on the Rivals board.

    And it's traitor, not trader.

  • No wonder they hate us (none / 0)

It's crap like this that makes me ashamed to be a Hawk fan.  Get a freakin' grip and deal with it - it's just a football game.

    • it's called venting (none / 0)

I don't read Rivals boards. I'm just tired of the coaching staff making the same mistakes year after year and being too stubborn to make changes. You're right, it is just a football game, but just the same, I want a new coach. He doesn't seem to be that happy either. If you feel good about the coaching staff then I'm happy for you.

  • nice guys wear pleats (none / 0)

I misread this game, so obviously I'm a putz.

But if we have to get a new coach, no pleated Dockers, okay?  Reminds me of PTA meetings in Fairfax.

  • I'd say I'm somewhere in the middle (none / 0)

Don't really want someone who will skullfuck your mom's corpse but gaddamn, Kirk Ferentz is like a friendly Borg from Star Trek who doesn't really want to assimilate you but is boring with no emotion and absolutely no fucking desire to lead a team to victory.

Just once I want to see Kirk go batshit crazy. And just with a ref. With his shitty assistants or his players who joke around after getting kicked in the teeth by the worst program in college football. Just once.

  • Careful what you wish for... (none / 0)

After all, we could have...  well, his name rhymes with "Crook."

I'm not ready to throw KF to the wolves just yet.  I wash my hands too, for fuck's sake.  But I completely agree about the emotion part.  I'd LOVE to see him go completely purple-faced Bobby Knight Sweet Lou apeshit crazy on a ref sometime and get ejected for it.  Do they even eject people in college football?  Anyway, yeah, I'd love to see him take a swing a Back Judge, or pick up Andy Brodell and throw him into the Gatorade table like a cowboy in a saloon fight.  I want some shit like that to happen and to have someone like a Bob Knight see it on Sports Center later and be all like, "Jesus dude, calm the fuck down."
I love KF, but the man needs 30 CCs of Rageahol, stat.

  • Agreed on rant (none / 0)

I am not ready for a new coach but I am sure ready for some changes on our staff. Tell me why a LB is covering a 6'4 WR 20 yards down the field under less than a minute? That is on the coaches. Putrid performance and I am about to cancel my Penn St trip.

  • coaching (none / 0)

I don't think it would be a bad idea if Kirk showed a bit of emotion from time to time, but I don't want him going all Ozzie Guillen, either.  That shit gets old in a hurry, too.

My beef is the staff is just so resistant to change.  Can anyone remember the last time the offense scored on the first possession after taking the ball?  And yet, every game it happens, a three-and-out and a thirty yard punt results in the defense digging in at midfield.

    • scoring on 1st possession (none / 0)

We scored on the opening drive of the Alamo Bowl.  Before that, it was sometime in the 2005 season.  That's terrible.

And I take back the part about wanting KF to throw Andy into the Gatorade table.  I want him to throw KOK into the Gatorade table.

  • Dear doucheypants anonymous (none / 0)

Never ever say, "it's just a football game."

Not ready to give up on KF et al quite yet, but I understand jebus's frustrations. It's time to change this shit up before I go into town and do it for them. Let's see some chairs being broken over backs.

I don't want to be mocked by the TSA agent at the Minneapolis airport for wearing an Iowa t-shirt anymore.

  • Kirk (none / 0)

I agree that something needs to be done, but I do not think ditching Kirk is the way to go...Directly after the game, I felt that way too as I thought back to the Hayden Fry era when Iowa State was a walk through game.  Hayden would never allow us to lose to Iowa State, much less on an every other year basis like Kirk has.  But the bottom line is this, the Hawks are still undefeated in the Big Ten and can win the Big Ten title still.  If I had to choose a game to lose, it would be a non-conference game so it could be worse.  This should just prove to Hawkeye fans how good we have it because we have legitimate hopes of a conference title, while the Cyclones only have one game marked on their calendar each year.  I would much rather be in the Hawkeyes shoes than the Cyclones....But I agree with you all though, it hurts like hell to think that Cy-Hawk will be in Ames this year and that we have to wait a whole year to right this wrong. But as we have learned in the past (2002) the Cyclone game can be a huge eye-opener and lead to something special...So I'm holding out hope for the season to turn around

  • the enigma (none / 0)

The enigma is that we can bitch all we want about KOK, but I don't see Ferentz pulling a Brian Billick and firing Fassell (KOK).  They taught in prep school together, 25 years ago.  There's some sort of megabond operating there.  And the upshot is we get to see our running backs turned into suicide bombers ("they'll slide left, you three stay home, he'll cutback and run into you and blow himself up"), and our QBs reduced to quivering basket cases by tanking WRs, indefinitely.

The fact is, we were out-coached in this game.  Their coach mapped out our obvious tendencies, his team did their homework, we played directly to character and type.  No screens, no swings.  No reverses.  Busch hasn't caught a pass since last year.  Even the obvious, pro-set 1998 bullshit plays we are leaving in the locker room.

It's like watching our offense go up against our own D in camp.  Everyone knows what we're going to do, because they've seen it now 8000 times.

At present, after three games against cupcakes, we are 11th in the Big Ten in total offense.

Well, we played pretty well at Michigan after losing 100-0 at Arizona.  One can always dream, and maybe PJ is too fat to play outside the hash marks and so we'll all agree to play the shrink offense.  All I have to do is dream ...

  • a title? cf. Everly Brothers. (none / 0)

When was the last time an Iowa team entered Big Ten play last in total offense, and competed for a title?

Repeat: our playbook might as well be mailed to the opponents' DCs (and it might only take a first class stamp).  We have all drunk too much Kool-Aid here.  I don't care how bad Brewster, Bielema, Lynch, Fitzgerald are; they can game plan to defend a one-note samba offense and that means ... ughhh.

KOK's going to lose his players if Wisconsin does what ISU did, with better players.  Run four plays for nine years, and then say they're young and not executing?

I mean, LAST?  After NIU, Cuse and the Clones?  Nine years in, and we are learning anew how to play offense like a first-year turnaround team?  And we are last in the league in total offense?  What nightmare is this?

Uggh.  Well, a guy can dream.  The dream goes, we're just playing rope-a-dope, possum, whatever, and we have an entire new offense that gets unveiled next week.  Dreaaaaaam dream.  Dream dream dream.  Dreaaaaaam.  Dream.

Oh.  The dream continued, and it's a nightmare.  We run the Wing-T next week.  Go, Massillon!  You guys are too young to remember the Delaware Wing-T and Bob Commings.  And good for you.

  • since we're being stupid (none / 0)

The single wing is probably a better fit.  Arghhh.

  • A coach for your consideration (none / 0)

Ed Orgeron, I think he pretty much fits everything you put in your description.  It shouldn't be that hard to get him either, he's 1-2 this year and was 4-8 last year.

He even has a crazy cajun accent.  You should be happy with him.

  • It's on KOK and Kirk (none / 0)

I don't have any serious complaints about the defense.  Only giving up 5 FG's, you really can't complain too much, but I understand those that do.

I put this loss squarely on the offense.  One touchdown and two FG's is completely unacceptable.  Period.  Against a team like ISU, I fully expected to score at least 42 points.  At the minimum.  I'm no great football mind, but a few new plays certainly couldn't hurt.

    Do something guys.

One of two things happen in Madison on Saturday:

Either Iowa shows up to play and wins by a close score or they lose by at least 30 points.  One or the other.

I think its time to clean house.

Too much money is being spent, from HC on down, for too little... no results. Clean house now while we still have a decent base of players and the train hasn't been run too far off of the tracks.

This BS that this 'is Iowa' is a loser's mentality we need to break. Solich didn't last at Nebraska (admittedly a different situation) but the idea that we should maintain excellence is one worth sacrificing a 'good coach' for.

  • Let's get the cardinals together and see... (none / 0)

...if we can get KOK and Norm UN-elected for life, for it appears that we are stuck with them no matter what otherwise.

Our philosophy and is now a LOSING philosophy; our schemes are LOSING schemes. The only teams that would win 10 games with them are USC, LSU, OU, and Florida. No one else possibly could. You have to be SO incredibly dominant to win when EVERY FUCKING PLAY HAS BEEN RUN AD NAUSEAM, EVERY TENDENCY IS SO FUCKING PREDICTABLE FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS that it's not even funny anymore. Just frustrating and pathetic.

It's like watching someone use their head to break down a door while a sledgehammer leans against it, unused.

KOK has to change his philosophy or be fired.
Norm has to change his philosophy or be fired.

The results speak for themselves. I'm almost at the point where I would trade our entire staff, KF included, for South Florida's with a case of Omaha Steaks thrown in.

Actually, I am past that point.

If it's not too much trouble, search your soul--and then ask yourself if maybe I might have a point.
