Today is Kirk Ferentz's Day of Reckoning

Look. The rumors are all there. We're happy to note that MGoBlog was cited, albeit clumsily, by WHO last night; the link is dead, but the crux of the link was as such:

"I've sat on this a couple days waiting for some third-party corroboration and now I have it: Kirk Ferentz has been offered the Michigan job," wrote Brian Cook of the Wolverine blog, M-Go, which is considered both credible and reliable.

ESPN, are you taking notes?

Add to that this thread on HawkeyeLounge.com, which certainly smells believable. Nobody's calling BS, and there's none of that supreme confidence that usually accompanies a ruse. Obviously this rumor is far from verified, but the onus is now on Michigan and Iowa to start issuing confirmations and/or denials.

And Mark Farley may want to put his agent on high alert.

People are already guessing who will be the next Iowa head coach (also who got into a fight at the SpoCo....Wooooo!).

This is a shit storm.

I'd like

to submit my name for the head coaching position...should it become available.  I don't have any experience, but i have the overalls.
And I work cheap!

If KF leaves, Iowa should call

Brian Kelly first.  I can't believe Michigan would want to pay Ferentz that kind of money!

Part of me...

is scared shitless that Kirk is going to leave for Michigan.  The other part of me isn't so sure that new blood is a bad thing for the football program at this point.

Regardless, I'm sure we're all in agreement that Kirk is not the problem right now as far as on field.  That lies directly with KOK and other assistants.  I don't like changing coaches for the sake of changing coaches, but I'm also not a fan of the situation at Penn State where Joe's been in charge for 593 years.  I like a little turnover every 10 years or so.  Keeps things fresh.

That said, I'll probably bawl like a small child if Kirk leaves for Ann Arbor.

Whatever happens...

I hope it happens sooner rather than later, so that we're not left picking through leftovers.  The U of I has demonstrated that it fairly committed to athletics and is willing to pay well, so I think there will be good candidates interested in the position if it opens.  But I don't want to be the last school out there in January trying to hire a coach and save what's left of a recruiting class.

I hope Kirk stays.  If he goes I will wish him well.  But I am kind of tired of this sort of thing happening every other year.
