Kirk Ferentz to Michigan? revisited
This move makes no sense and would make nobody happy. While Iowa fans would be ambivalent upon his departure, we'd start getting awfully nostalgic when Ferentz is winning his old familiar 9 games in Ann Arbor and Mark Farley's* putting the finishing touches on a 4-8 campaign. Meanwhile, Big Blue's been assuming for the past, oh, 12 months that the job will be going to a Michigan alumnus whose team just so happens to have been #1 for the longest amount of time this season.
Either way, there are way, way too many rumors circulating (nothing's been independently verified, so specifics are a no-go) for there to be nothing to the story. I still expect Captain Kirk to be on Iowa's sideline next year. Michigan must be very, very tempting to Ferentz, but nothing about his track record indicates that he would leave Iowa for another school in the conference--not even Michigan.
*You know Farley's getting hired if Ferentz leaves.

captain kirk to michigan?
The Michigan job only comes along once in a lifetime. I am sure they would let Kirk take his son with him to Michigan. I would think twice about turning this job down. Of course, I still think he has Penn State in mind when JoPa finally steps down.
I agree that the big money in Michigan probably doesn't think this hire is a big enough "splash" on the national scene.

I can't see it
I (still) think he's a great coach, and he certainly fits that pretentious "Michigan Man" cliche that UM fans love so much, but he's said, repeatedly, that he's not leaving any time soon. He just doesn't seem like the guy to go back on his word like that.
Now, that said, if he leaves, I wish him the best of luck and don't bregrudge him a bit. As HS said, the Michigan job is a once in a lifetime sort of thing. I love Iowa, but it's a big upgrade over Iowa in almost every possible way. I'm pretty sure I'd be jumping at the chance to coach there if I were him.

Perhaps
Yes, perhaps I dropped my psychotropics by the liquor cabinet.
On the other hand, I observe the following:
- Why would Martin hire someone named Les when anyone who taught English knows, it's "Fewer"? Especially when he could get Martin fired for doing the very thing Carr has kept a file describing?
- Relationships matter. Moreso at Michigan. And the fanboy blogs that are so outraged are making the same mistake as peasants in 13th century France: they may think they own the cathedral, but ... they don't.
- If Kirk wants a national championship, he needs to walk through that door now or next year. Next year his son has started college, and another, high school.
- Kirk looked in the mirror. He's older than he was last year, and he guesses that others have (strangely?) divined same.
- Other than Schiano, there's actually a dearth of candidates out there who offer equal measures of promise and achievement. I'm wrong? So, who?
This is a logical, real possibility. Before, I made the mistake of thinking that UM cared more about ISU than three top tens, 12 years after UM last achieved same.
