RB Dana Brown assaults girlfriend, is downgraded to "former RB Dana Brown"
Ugly, ugly news from the police reports as third-string tailback Dana Brown was arrested yesterday evening after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.
Not surprisingly, Brown was immediately booted from the team by Coach Ferentz today for a violation of team rules. Hopefully, team rule #1 is "Never, ever hit a woman, no matter how much she pisses you off."
The story is here, and while it's not The Hills Have Eyes bad, the details are still brutal enough that I don't have the heart to cite them.
Damn it.

"What's so domestic about assault, anyway?"

It depends
We've got Pugh on the roster right now, and one ** recruit almost definitely coming in in Tony Cornelious. Jason Ford (a *** or **** star recruit depending on who's grading him) had commited early and then reopened his recruiting, but Iowa still leads on him and he seems to be pretty close to commiting for good after the Illinois game. Also, as of right now, I think Shonn Green is expected to be back next year, assumming he gets his grades in order.

three arrests
This was Brown's third arrest in 5 months, so one might reasonably ask if he was a running back or a miscreant. I think the law, like any other rule structure, deserves selective compliance, but this guy had behavior problems that, finally, are tawdry, pathetic, and destructive. He was no running back. Buh-bye.

There is no Dana only Pugh...
Bummer we don't have a RB named Zul, that would've worked a lot better.
I think we'll be ok, but I'll feel much better when/if Cornellious and Ford commit for real. Shonn Greene getting his grades back in order and getting back on the team is paramount now. He was already arguably our most impressive reserve running back to begin with. Again though, I think we'll be ok. Ford is visiting UIUC for the Michigan game, so hopefully his experience at Kinnick will trump that. Having him at that game makes me even more confused as to which team to root for though. Do we want the Illini to stink up the place, or would that just make him even more tempted to go there? I mean, rooting for Michigan is... ugh, rooting for Michigan, and cheering for the Illini is... well, you get the idea. I'm hoping his exposure to the Zook Hook two weeks in a row will seal the deal for us. He comes off as a pretty bright kid...
Funny, to read posts by various slack-jawed mouth-breathers on one of the message board sites, you'd think Ferentz & staff planned it this way - as though they're intentionally trying to sabotage the team via a depleted RB corps. Nothing like a few utterly cretinous morons to make ya' feel good about where ya' come from...

Bucketochicken
I think that, as of right now, Mizzou is the team we need to worry about in regards to Ford, not Illinois. But like I said, he still favors Iowa, so hopefully everything works out okay.
