In a statement released today, [Redacted] finally and formally apologized for publicly defending Pierre Pierce. He called his remarks at the time "inappropriate, insensitive, and hurtful" to the victim. Maybe hell froze over. But it's also possible that this was UCLA's idea and he was once again "doing what the university told him to do."

We'll see what kind of punishment the NCAA doles out, but this is significant. ISU was found guilty of major recruiting violations in every sport. From USA Today: "Iowa State University athletic coaches made 1,484 impermissible phone calls to recruits and has agreed that it has committed "major violations" of NCAA rules, according to documents made public Wednesday. The rules violations involve more than 33 coaches and every athletic program at the university and date back to the spring of 2011, according to the a finding of facts that both Iowa State and the NCAA agree upon."

It's one of the rare Pat Harty articles I finished. It also is more damning of Alford than anything else that has been written.

Good News: The crackpot that poisoned the Toomer's Corner trees has changed his plea to guilty and is going to jail. Bad News: The trees aren't going to make it. Auburn is going to paper the trees one last time on 20APR2013 and then they will be removed some time after that.

I did not see this coming.
