Iowa football is a bit of a waste land at the moment. Fortunately, the future still appears bright. Here’s our weekly rundown of how the commitments in the class of 2019 performed over the last week.
Alex Padilla, QB
Hometown: Greenwood Village, CO (Cherry Creek)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 195
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3
Coming off a first round bye in the Colorado class 5A playoffs last week, quarterback commit Alex Padilla showed no signs of rust. He came out firing, going 16 or 22 for 280 yards and 3 touchdowns as Cherry Creek rolled to a 41-14 victory over Castle View this week.
Here are the highlights:
On the season, Padilla now has 1,758 passing yards and 23 touchdowns with only 1 interception with a 71% completion percentage. He also has two rushing touchdowns.
Cherry Creek moves to 10-1 on the season with the win. They advance to take on Ralston Valley this week.
Tyler Goodson, RB
Hometown: Suwanee, GA (North Gwinnett)
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 192

Running back commit Tyler Goodson had his night cut short in North Gwinnett’s first round of the Georgia class 7A playoff game against Central Gwinnett last week. Goodson finished with only 4 carries for 5 yards, but did find the endzone. He also had a spectacular 30-yard catch and run, including a hurdle over a defender.
Goodson was pulled for precautionary reasons per his coach and his mother reiterated on Twitter that he’s in good health. The early departure didn’t derail North Gwinnett as they rolled to a 49-0 victory.
Here are the highlights:
On the season, Goodson has 976 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns on 129 carries for a 7.6 yard per carry average. He’s also got a passing touchdown out of the wildcat and a touchdown reception.
North Gwinnett moves to 9-2 with the win and advances to take on West Forsyth in the next round of the playoffs this week.
Desmond Hutson, WR
Hometown: Raytown, MO (Raytown)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 195
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3
Wide receiver commit Desmond Hutson and Raytown were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. Hutson finished his senior season with 742 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns on 44 receptions for a 16.9 yard per catch average. Raytown ended the year 8-2.

Logan Lee, TE
Hometown: Orion, IL (Orion)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 225
Stars: 247 Sports - 4 Rivals - 3
Tight end commit Logan Lee remains out for the remainder of his senior season with a lacerated spleen.
Lee finished his senior season with 442 receiving yards with 10 TDs on 26 catches (17.0 ypc). He also has 46 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks on the defensive side of the ball.
Orion was defeated by third-seeded Eastman-Pearl City 30-3 in state quarterfinals on Saturday. They finish the season 11-1.
Josiah Miamen, TE
Hometown: Dunlap, IL (Dunlap)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 225

Tight end commit Josiah Miamen and Dunlap were defeated in the first round of the Illinois class 6A playoffs a week ago.
Miamen finished his senior seas 464 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns on 24 catches for an average of 19.3 yards per reception this year. Dunlap closed out the season 7-3.
Jack Campbell, LB
Hometown: Cedar Falls, IA (Cedar Falls)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 210
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3
Linebacker commit Jack Campbell had a stellar performance against Southeast Polk in the semi-finals. He finished with 22 total tackles, including 13 solos, and a blocked field goal as Cedar Falls came away with a 26-12 victory.
Cedar Falls moves to 12-0 and advances to 4A state championship against West Des Moines Dowling.
On the season, Campbell now has 154 tackles, 11.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks.
Jestin Jacobs, LB
Hometown: Clayton, OH (Northmont)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 205
Stars: 247 Sports - 4 Rivals - 3
Fellow linebacker commit Jestin Jacobs finished with four tackles, but it wasn’t enough as Northmont fell 33-7 to Pickerington Central in the second round of the playoffs.
Jacobs finishes his senior season with 38 tackles, 4 sacks and a fumble recovery on defense. Northmont finishes the year 10-2. We know wait to see if Jacobs visits Ohio State and how things progress with his commitment to Iowa.
Sebastian Castro, S
Hometown: Oak Lawn, IL (Richards)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 198
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3
Safety commit Sebastian Castro tallied 3 tackles on the defensive side of the ball and found the endzone twice on offense to help Richards defeat Normal West 22-17 in the quarter-finals last week.
Here’s a look at the highlights.
On the season Castro now has 57 tackles, including 6 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions and 5 forced fumbles. On offense, he’s over 300 yards rushing with 11 touchdowns.
Richards moves to 12-0 with the win. They advance to face Crete-Monee in the class 6Astate semi-finals.
Dane Belton, CB/S
Hometown: Tampa, FL (Jesuit)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 185
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3
Fellow defensive back commit Dane Belton also had three tackles as Tampa Jesuit defeated DeSoto County 44-0.
Here’s a look at the highlights:
On the year, Belton now has 38 tackles, 6 passes defended and a pair of interceptions. Jesuit advances to take on Immokalee in the second round of the state playoffs this week.
Jake Karchinski, DE
Hometown: De Pere, WI (West De Pere)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 245
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3
Defensive end commit Jake Karchinski had 9 tackles, 3 TFL and a sack as West De Pere took down Rice Lake 35-14 last week.
Karchinski now has 57 tackles, 17 TFL and 7.5 sacks, a forced fumble as well as a fumble recovery. West De Pere moves to 13-0) and advances to take on Catholic Memorial in the state championship at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison this week.
Jalen Hunt, DE
Hometown: Belleville, MI (Belleville)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 250
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3
Defensive end commit Jalen Hunt had three tackles for loss and a pair of sacks on the defensive side of the ball and also ran for both of Bellevue’s touchdowns on the offensive side this week. Bellevue defeated West Bloomfield 13-10.

Chris Reames, DE
Hometown: Van Meter, IA (Van Meter)
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 220

And finally, new commit Chris Reames had 4 tackles and 2 TFL this week. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as Van Meter lost 38-35 to West Sioux in the Iowa Class 1A semifinals.
Reames finished his season with 63 tackles, 11 TFL, and 2 sacks. Van Meter ends the year 11-1.
Lineman Notes
Offensive line commit Justin Britt remains sidelined with his torn ACL. Warren Central defeated North Central 42-32 in the quarterfinals of the Indiana playoffs. They advance to take on Center Grove in the semifinal this week.
OL commit Noah Fenske and New Hampton finished their season 3-6 and did not make the state playoffs.
Offensive lineman Ezra Miller and Ridge View also finished the year 3-6 and outside the playoffs.
And finally, lineman Tyler Endres and Norwalk were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, finishing the season 6-4.
