Why I'm a Die-Hard Fan of the Hawkeye! Family is all it takes!

My Dad was a lifelong Hawkeye fan. He was born in 1923 and always talked about hearing Nile Kinnick play on the radio. WhenI hear his speech, it gives me goosebumps.

My first real memories of the Hawkeyes are in the 1980's and forward. I remember the 1980 Jim Bain foul call on Kevin Boyle against Purdue and losing the Big Ten Championship and Jim Bain having to be escorted out under police protection.

I remember the 1986 Rose Bowl and Dad just pissed that Ronnie Harmon fumbled 4 times in the 1st quarter and only once all season. His words, "How the hell do you do that?"

I was at the Michigan v Iowa game for basketball when it went into Double OT and Iowa lost by 3, but at half-time Bryce Cartwright hit a half court shot and Ed Hightower called it back, the team had no idea until they came out from the locker rooms.

It's the excitement and rush of adrenaline, it's not having a pro team and putting your love for football and basketball into young men who never forget us first fans. It's being at the away games and having them see you in the stands knowing they are being supported and seeing you after the games where they come out, even after a tough loss and see how grateful the fans are. It's beating ISU every chance we get and making them remember they are our little brother.
