Today is the fifth anniversary of the day Iowa started allowing gay marriage. Man, time flies. Seems like just yesterday, doesn't it? We were so young then. Ricky Stanzi was not yet known as Anerica's greatest Patriot. Fran McCaffery had just gotten home to upstate NY after taking Sienna to another successful NCAA Tourney appearance. BHGP had regular articles by HFMR. All of it seems so long ago. At the time, Iowa was on the forefront of opening up marriage to gay couples, only the 3rd state to allow it. The count is now at 17 states and growing. It's also been one of the few states where there's been not much fuss about it. No major challenges in the courts or in the legislature, the state of Iowa just allowed gay rights to catch up to basic human rights without all the polemics and in-fighting that has plagued other states. Iowans just let their fellow Iowans be who they are and love who they love. Bravo to the state and people of Iowa.
