IOWA Hooter boy leaves a legacy behind

I had always heard rumors that Hooters was founded by someone from Iowa. The reason being is that some of the Hooters in Florida had Hawkeye memorabilia in it.....Maybe it's old news, but I hadn't heard much of it.

But I guess it was true as David "Lags" Lageschulte died here in Houston and it was noted that he was born in Waverly, Iowa. He's leaving some of the property he had in Waverly to family members. In fact, he had a business called Hawkeye Ventures. Rest in peace Hawkeye fan for giving us Hooters, hot pants, chicken wings, 24oz cheap Miller Lite's and of course, football games on TV.

I had to add more, he didn't actually found Hooters (sorry) but was one of the first franchisers. One of the founders was from Iowa. Maybe they were all from Waverly.....From Wartburg to Hooters.

When co-founder Ed Droste started the Hooters calendar in 1986, he made sure it was very good cheesecake but also very funny. The months were out of order, each day had a joke, and the whole month of March was devoted to Iowa humor--e.g., "You know you're from Iowa if you consider being called a Pork Queen an honor." (Droste and Dennis Johnson both hail from Waverly, Iowa.)
