1) While pondering the inanity of Kentucky's sports teams being called the very boring "Wildcats" like so many other NCAA teams, I wonder how many D1 teams had that name. And it had to be the most-used name, right? Well, the answers to both of those thoughts surprised me. To answer the question I found this useful link: http://www.vuhoops.com/2013/4/1/4096410/wildcats-are-the-4th-most-common-division-i-mascot. And as the link states, Wildcat is somehow only the 4th-most-used D1 (counting by basketball) mascot with 10 schools (10!). Name the three D1 athletics nicknames more popular than "Wildcats".
2) From the previous link, I was surprised to learn that Kentucky has only been using "Wildcats" since 1976. Iowa has pretty much always been the Hawkeyes, but what year did we adopt the Tigerhawk logo and the black and gold colors? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_Hawkeyes_football
3) We know Kirk Ferentz makes about $4M from the university/state, but let's guess what exact amount is his actual total compensation and travel T&E for 2013 according to state records. Closest gets a cookie. http://thegazette.com/iowa-state-employee-salary-database/?appSession=66798473662760
