Hey Guys, I just ran across this article today and found it really interesting from a purely analytical basketball fan pov. It's based on the panel given at this year's Sloan Conference. For those who don't know what that is, its essentially the annual Who's Who of statistical sports analysis. This year's panel was led by the Rocket's Daryl Morey & Post-Nuggets George Karl, with insight from a few no-name fellas like Bill James, Nate Silver and Kevin Kelley.
The more I read though, the more I realized that Fran must really subscribe to a lot of these theories. It began to explain what we've spent countless hours in the comments sections scratching our heads at. Such as, why does Fran never utilize timeouts? Why don't we run more set plays? Why is there no go-to player? Needless to say, I think its a must read for BBall fans to better understand what our team is trying to do out there. And it really points out exactly why our weak points exist.
The second article especially is quick to point out that these theories are far from perfect. I think the ideal is to know and understand them and when to utilize them, along with more conventional offensive schemes.
Anyway, just wanted to share because I found it neat and pertinent. Hopefully it leads to some good discussions. Also, it's my first fan post! Hopefully I didn't fuck it up too badly
