Hamsterdam is Ready for Panama

Fresh off their big win over Jamaica in The Office, the United States Men's National Team (or USMNT, as the cool kids call them) is bringing their World Cup Qualification quest home -- to Seattle's Century Link Field. (I could have made a great pun there if it was still called Qwest Field. Alas.) Their opponent? A scrappy Panama team currently sitting 4th in the qualification table, on 6 points, behind Costa Rica, the United States, and Mexico (all dead-locked at 7 points). Panama, aka the Fightin' Van Halens, is fresh off a home draw (0-0) against Panama Mexico, though, so they're no easy mark. On the bright side, Panama is without their top-scoring threat, Blas Perez.

The USMNT is currently in a good position to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and wins in their remaining qualifiers this month (both at home; they play Honduras next Tuesday) would put them in a very strong position to be Brazil-bound. And that would be nice.

As noted, this game is in Seattle, one of the hotbeds of soccer in America, so the crowd should be large, loud, and very excited. Hopefully the field is half as good -- there's already been grumbling about the use of temporary grass laid over top of Century Link's usual artificial turf. Anyway, the game is on ESPN at 9pm CT. If you want an appetizer, the other two teams atop the qualifying table, Mexico and Costa Rica, are clashing on ESPN at 7pm CT.

In other sports news, there's also Game 3 of the NBA Finals on ABC, starting around 8pm CT. And there's probably a bunch of baseball on somewhere else. Plus whatever else trips your fancy on a Tuesday night in summertime.

The usual rules apply.
