My first fanpost, so bear with me, please.
Some of us from NE Iowa were talking over a few Ham'dams about how pretty our old stomping grounds were and reminiscing about a couple of burger places. That sparked the idea of doing a group ride to see if the burgers are as good as we remember. If you'd like to participate but aren't a rider, no sweat--we'll take anyone who wants to go.
The proposal right now is to do this the day before the Iowa football opener against NIU on Friday, 30 August. I'm thinking we could meet up in the morning at about 9am in the parking lot on the west side of Kinnick (the press box side). The proposed route would be Iowa City to Anamosa via Highway 1, to Monticello via 151, Dyersville via IA-136, Guttenberg via 52, McGregor via the Great River Road, and across the bridge to Prairie du Chien, WI.
After lunch at Pete's in Prairie du Chien, we'd do the whole thing in reverse. There would probably be time for a stop at the Field of Dreams for those so inclined and maybe a get together in one of the greater Iowa City watering holes after.
Follow that up the next day with an informal BHGP tailgate for the NIU game, if someone has a location in mind and available.
What I'd like to do is gauge the level of interest from folks on the site and see if it's worth putting together.
Hope we can get something together!
