By now everyone has probably heard about the tragic bombing that happened at the Boston Marathon. It should probably take a few hours and days to sort out the actual number of casualties, but as of right now it looks like at least 2 dead and at least 23 injured. Thoughts and prayers of course go out to all involved in this.
We sometimes get caught up in the minor tragedies of sports, such as Tiger's 2-stroke penalty or major sporting events being marred by poor officiating, but a real tragedy like this can make us remember that the reason some terrible people decided to attack a major sporting event is precisely because it can be a symbol of the best parts of our human existence.
Sporting bring us closer together as friends and families. It unites complete strangers on the internet in a shared love for a Midwestern football team. It inspires in ways few other things can. It reminds us that impossible can sometimes be only a temporary idea. It gives so many of us a happy distraction from some of the mundane or unlikable parts of everyday life, Hell, sports even help cure cancer.
So best of luck to all involved in this tragedy, hopefully this can help remind us how much sports and life in total mean to all of us. Somber Hamsterdams aren't as fun as some others, but this is going to be a topic of importance, so we might as well face this reality.
