2013 NCAA Tournament: Session V Results

Not a great finish for the Hawkeyes in the consolation rounds.

SESSION V MATCHES

CONSOLATION SEMIFINAL MATCHES

174: #3 Mike Evans vs #4 Robert Kokesh (Nebraska) DEC (3-2) #3 Mike Evans
184: #12 Ethen Lofthouse vs. #2 Ben Bennett (Central Michigan) DEC (3-2) #12 Ethen Lofthouse

5TH PLACE MATCHES

174: #8 Nick Heflin FALL(2:10) #3 Mike Evans
184: #12 Ethen Lofthouse DEC (6-2) #7 Jimmy Sheptock (Maryland)

It was disappointing that neither Evans nor Lofthouse could wrestle for 3rd place, but at least Lofthouse was able to end his tournament with a solid win over a good opponent. I would not have predicted a 5th place finish for him before this weekend, so kudos to him for exceeding expectations and finishing the season on a high note. Hopefully he's able to use his performance here as a springboard for next season. Sadly, while Lofthouse ended the season on a positive note, Evans' season ended with a thud. He seemed bothered by a leg injury and he just didn't seem all that enthusiastic about either of his matches, an idea borne out by his results. Hopefully The 'Stache heals up and comes back better than ever next year.
