Per bracketmatrix (an aggregate bracket system), as of yesterday evening, we are tied (with Mississippi) for third team out. Both teams are on five brackets (out of 92).
Teams immediately ahead of us, in reverse order:
3rd out: Mississippi - Friday 9:00 vs Missouri / Texas A&M / Auburn
2nd out: Virginia - Friday 1:00 vs NC State (projected 8-seed) / Virginia Tech. Beat a decent Maryland team in OT on Sunday to raise their stock. If they beat NC State then a win against OSU may not necessarily push Iowa past them.
1st out: Middle Tennessee - Done. Probably out. Had nations longest winning streak of 17 games stopped when FIU upset them in Sun Belt semifinals yesterday. About two-thirds of brackets have them out since they lost. Easy team for Iowa to pass.
last in (12): Tennessee - Thursday 2:30 vs South Carolina / Mississippi State
2nd-to-last (12): La Salle-12 - Friday 1:30 vs Butler / Dayton
3rd-to-last (12): Kentucky-12 - Friday 6:30 vs Arkansas / Vanderbilt
4th-to-last (12): Boise State-12 - Wed 11:00 pm vs projected 9-seed San Diego State, winner is off until Friday
5th (11): Iowa State-11 - Thursday 11:30 am vs projected 10-seed Oklahoma
6th (11): Villanova-11 - Thursday 6:00 vs projected 1-seed Louisville
7th (11): St Mary's-11 - Done. Probably in. Lost on Monday to projected 1-seed Gonzaga. Since that game something like 48 out of 52 brackets list them as in, though most often as a 12 seed. A win against Ohio State could maybe possibly but probably not lift Iowa past them.
8th (11): Temple-11 - Friday 8:00 vs UMass / GW
9th (10): Wichita State - Done. Definitely in. Lost Sunday to Creighton in MVC championship game.
I'll try to update this tomorrow (Thurs) night and again Saturday morning.
