McNutt?

Hey there Iowans. Lifetime Baltimore sports fan here and I was hoping I could stop by here and do some blog scouting. As I'm sure you're aware, this WR draft class is extremely deep and the Ravens continue to look to improve their WR core. One guy I've had my eye on all year, even though my team (Notre Dame) didn't play you, was McNutt. Now I've clearly not seen all of his games but the production is sure there, and his physical measurables are pretty damn good for a guy some think may fall as far as the 4th round.

Now we may not be looking for a WR in the 3rd or 4th if we take, say, Stephen Hill at 29, but our 4th will likely be in the middle of that round as we are expected to get a compensatory 4th rounder for the loss of Dawan Landry who started for the Jaguars all season. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I see in McNutt is a guy who plays faster than his 40 time at the combine might indicate--he certainly had the speed to get deep in college, and he's got some pretty impressive catches. He's got the height and the length and his hands are large, and Joe Flacco is a QB who tends to miss his targets high. I can't tell you the number of Derrick Mason receptions that might have gone for extra yards if the guy had been taller than 5'10" and didn't have to leave the ground to make the catch.

I was wondering how Hawkeye fans remember McNutt. Was he a real fan-favorite? What do you think about his intangibles? Was there one glaring deficiency in his game that drove you nuts? What about his attitude? Is he tough? Our WRs get to get slammed by some pretty physical defenders in the AFC North. Mostly, what I'm trying to get a sense for is what would you think his NFL ceiling is? Can this guy be a #2 or even a #1 receiver for an offense with an emphasis on tons of deep throws? Would you take him at 93 (late 3rd) or wait until the 4th? Would you take him over Tommy Streeter of Miami (FL)?

My gut says I'd take him over Streeter, and probably with the 93rd pick that we'll have (assuming we stay put in the 3rd but you never know with Ozzie Newsome). Who knows, we may deal a pick to try to move up and take Whitney Mercilus in the 1st (please, please, please), and if that happens and we're in the 3rd still looking to improve our receivers, I think we'll be thinking very hard about McNutt.

Thanks ladies and gents, maybe some football talk can get your mind of basketball. And while I'm here, thanks for inventing the machine known as "Marshal Yanda."
