It's been about, 9 months? WTF? since I wrote one of these. Wow. That's a long time. The last time I wrote one, we had a winning football team and a losing basketball team. And the wrestling team couldn't quite crack the puzzle that is Cael's PSU juggernaut. The more things change, the more they stay the same, I guess.
In this post, I tell you what I've seen, you comment or do the same below. THIS IS A POST WHERE WE TALK FREELY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS ON THE TV SHOWS AND MOVIES, SO DON'T READ THIS AN ACT LIKE I PEED IN YOUR SOUP, WATCHED YOUR DVR, AND LEFT YOU COPIOUS NOTES. Also, probably don't leave illegal streams or weird pictures (HawKCP, this means you and your Spider-lady).
First-run TV I've watched lately: PTI, Outside the Lines, Dan LeBatard is Highly Questionable, Justified, Archer, NCAA and NIT Mens' Basketball. And that ESPN 30 for 30 about Magic Johnson - The Announcement. Baseball IQ (a sort of game show on MLB Network), The Office.
Movies I've recently seen for the first time: The Grey (awhile back, in the theater), In the Name of the Father (old, I know).
Movie or TV Re-runs I've watched lately: Coach, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (yes, the Costner one), Backdraft, Mad Men.
Soon on TV: The new season (season 5, I believe) of Mad Men starts on Sunday on AMC. I think the first episode is like 2 hours long, so I'm hoping it will be awesome. Is this the year that Roger Sterling gets interested in a new young lady (what, that's been every season so far?) Is this the year where Don turns his back on human decency and becomes interested in a new young lady (what, again every season of the show?) Is this the year where Peggy Olson and Harry Crane finally join together, consolidate power, and take the ad world by force? (No, probably not). Is this the year where Joan dumps her doctor-husband, leaves Roger laying in the dust, and decides to find happiness in an overweight man from Waterloo, Iowa? (No, definitely not).
I have not jumped on the Walking Dead band-wagon, but I know a bunch of people around BHGP are watchers of it.
I think Thursday, March 22 is the "second half" of the season finale of Archer on FX. It takes place in space. Yeah, it is awesome.
Things appear to be picking up in Justified on FX. We now see the really creepy and even-more-horrible-than-before side of Quarles. Raylan has found another hottie (the bar-tender). Dicky Bennett is back in our lives. And who knows what Boyd and Ava and the new sheriff are going to do.
While we're talking about southerners with questionable morals, there's a new Dallas tv show coming out in June on TNT.
Movies: I haven't seen much new lately. The Announcement on ESPN was good, but I'm a sucker for most of the 30 for 30s. There have been a few movies I've wanted to see at the theater over the past 3 or 4 months, but on a Friday or a Saturday night, I've been pretty lazy, so I haven't been to many flicks. Maybe I need to join a film appreciation club or something.
I'm not a big Hunger Games anticipator, and I can't say that new Three Stooges movie looks decent (April 13). But, I just saw a commercial for a Guy Pearce movie that looks pretty cool, called Lockout (a space station/prison riot in space). I'm not the world's biggest sci-fi fan, but the commercial really kept my interest. And I think it will be released on April 13 or April 20th.
And while we're talking about Guy Pearce, RossWB said something about his movie coming later in the summer called Prometheus, releasing in June.
The new American Pie movie ("American Reunion") will be out on April 6th.
Video Games: I don't make much time for these, but many people around BHGP have been talking about some new ones that have recently been released, or will be shortly. Feel free to chat about them in the comments. I made a Duck Hunt joke the other day to a colleague, so that should tell you where I am in my evolution as a gamer.
That's it, that's the list. I wish you all a great rest of the week, a great rest of March, and just overall greatness. If you are living in Iowa, like me, get out and enjoy the weather while it is so beautiful, because you never know what will happen in April, and then we've probably got a vicious drought and heat-wave coming this summer. I fully expect Iowa to look like a scene from The Road Warrior by July 4th.
