Iowa is Honoring the 86-87 Hoops Team Tomorrow

In which provided me one of the greatest sports memories of my life. I was 11 then but I still have memories of that team and specifically that NCAA tournament run. I won't talk about UNLV but that entire game is on the Internet somewhere.

Kevin Gamble hits the game winner and gets Iowa to the 1987 Elite 8 (via 1987Hawkeyes)

I'm still mad at myself

I fell asleep on the couch with that game on and didn’t wake up until it was over.
In watching that replay, the refs probably could have whistled Lohaus for plowing over the screener on the baseline.
Damn, Kevin Gamble was a helluva shooter.

Iowa has had some good hoops teams over the years.

I’d say 2006, some of the mid-90s teams with ‘Dre, Settles and Kingsbury, some of the early 90s teams with Street and Earl, there are a few others. But, in the last 30 years, I’d say Iowa has only had one GREAT team (meaning a team with a legitimate chance to win the whole damn thing), and that was 86-87. What a fun ballclub.

I’m a little young to remember much about 1980, but I remember this like it was yesterday. We all thought NCAA wins like this (other than in the first round) would become a regular occurrence. Hopefully they will again sooner rather than later. I like to think we’re on the right track.

Because the Gulfstream 5 has neither the airspeed nor the specs to adequately describe how fly I feel.

I heard tell they're going to be auctioning off some Jersey's form that team.

Anyone know more about this, maybe with some links? Curious about any possible BJ jersey.

Anybody know how close

Saturday’s game is to being sold out?

I pondered making the trip from Waterloo, but I have a feeling I’ll end up sleeping in and watching it on TV.

TV could be tricky depending on your cable package.

I almost got real sad to see it was on ESPNU, but it looks like it’s also on ESPN3.com

I'm in Iowa and have DirecTV with the sports pack.

I get the U. But, I’m sure they won’t do much justice to the honoring of the 86-87 team with the TV coverage.

I hate to say it, but the actual game would probably be the secondary reason I’d go (although, I guess it would be the first Hawk hoops game I’d see in person this season).

I think they'll take paying butts in the seat for any reason

I spent half my life's earnings on wine, women & song. The other half I wasted.
