Iowa vs. Oklahoma State Wrestling LIVEGAMEOPENTHREAD

Brent_metcalf_medium

via thegazette.com

Now it's time for the other Iowa-OSU showdown of the day. I talked all about this meet yesterday; scroll down if you want a refresher course. Now it's time to get out there and take care of business: get a win, get the record, and send a message to the rest of the sport. Go Hawks.

If you live in Iowa, the meet is on Iowa Public Television at 7pm CT. If you live elsewhere, the meet is being televised by video.BTN.com/Hawkeye All Access ($$$).

The standard open thread rules apply: no links to illegal online streams, no porn, no politics, no religion, no slurs, no douchebaggery.

Best of luck to little bro

The finals are a huge accomplishment. And Iowa always needs help at the upper weights if he can be that good…

I spent half my life's earnings on wine, women & song. The other half I wasted.

I've more than seen it, I've lived it.

I won a college match (DIII) on cautions in double OT. That was when the whole OT was sudden victory. It was more weird than anything because it took both me and my opponent a second to realize that the match was over. Then I was like ‘fucking right’, because it put me in the tourney finals. It was a pretty anti-climactic way to win an intense match.

Apparently much more complex

Tie-Breaker System for Dual Meets

In dual-meet competition, if the teams have identical scores, the following tie-breaking system shall be used to determine the winner:

a. The team whose opposing wrestlers or team has been penalized the greater number of team points for flagrant or unsportsmanlike conduct shall be declared the winner.

The team whose opposing wrestlers or team personnel have been penalized the greater number of team point deductions shall be declared the winner.

c. The team whose opposing wrestlers were penalized the greater number of match points for unsportsmanlike conduct during a match shall be declared the winner.

d. The team having won the greater number of matches (including forfeits) shall be declared the winner.

e. The team having accumulated the greater number of points for falls, defaults, forfeits, or disqualifications shall be declared the winner.

f. The team having the greater number of points for technical falls shall be declared the winner.

g. The team having the greater number of points for major decisions shall be declared the winner.

h. The team having the greater number (total match points) of first point(s) shall be declared the winner.

The team having the greater number of points for near-falls shall be declared the winner.

j. The team having the greater number of takedowns shall be declared the winner.

k. The team having the greater number of reversals shall be declared the winner.

l. The team having the greater number of escapes shall be declared the winner.

m. The team whose opponent has been penalized more often for stalling will be declared the winner.

n. The team whose opponent has been warned more often for stalling will be declared the winner.

o. The team whose opponent has the greater number of points for all other infractions (i.e. false starts)

If none of the above resolve the tie, a flip of a disk will determine the winner.

Upon determining the winning team by use of the tiebreaking system, a single team point shall be added to the prevailing team. The method of recording the score in breaking team ties shall be the score followed by the letter of the criterion that broke the tie.

by RossWB on Jan 7, 2012 9:21 PM CST up reply actions

I heard that he's weighing in at 187 right now.

And that Brands has said that 184 is still in the mix for him. It’s early in the season and although it would have been very nice to win last night, Brands still coaches for the postseason and looks at duals as training/proving ground.

Either way we’re going to have a hole at one of the weights, my guess is that hole will be at 197 by the time the postseason rolls around.

My theory is that maybe he enjoys the slightly slower pace of 197 while he’s still getting over the concussion. I was also told that he has beaten several of the top guys currently at 197 while in high school so maybe he thought he would have an easier go of it at 197. He’s learning a lesson though, weight makes a big difference.

Also, I don’t believe he is working with Doyle currently. The wrestling team has leaned on Doyle a few times in the past. If Gambrall really wants to stay at 197 (and it sounds like it’s entirely his choice as of right now) we may see them utilize Doyle.

Shucks.

Maybe I should apply for a job at SBN and help them realize that it’s a good idea to let their member blogs have a third section for their own use (i.e. hamsterdam threads, game threads, etc)

Kind of a crazy time of year.

Also, our football team’s finish and our sketchy hoops team don’t help much.

I am rather shocked we don’t see more wrestling stuff in the fanposts/fanshots, but I suppose there are other websites that cater more to that taste.

Still, we all love BHGP, and you, Ross.

Still haven't seen it

I don’t get to watch many violent movies now that I’m married with a youngin

I spent half my life's earnings on wine, women & song. The other half I wasted.

I have it on DVD,

have only watched it once or twice.

I actually feel bad that I have quite a few DVDs and I never watch them. And my DVR is almost full.

I wish I were like other people I know and could just take the occasional day off (or week off, in the case of my cousin the police officer who gets crazy comp-time). And just watch the TV.

I have a little time thanks to travels.

But yeah, My tv time has dramatically decreased over the past year :(

I could probably watch more DVD's

if I were taking plane-trips and stuck in hotels.

But then, I’d never get to the DVR (and I still don’t get it cleared off quickly, as is).

Probably not new to you...

..but being still sore from the OSU Craptastic Letdown Super Tour that just swung through CHA, I just received this video from my aunt. Best video I’ve ever seen with the line, “So I hear you think you know something about Iowa? Fuck you.” Lifted my spirits a bit.

Hopefully I’m not beating a dead horse by posting this, just got it and it gave me a chuckle.

Whew, thanks.

Having a new baby, new job, and sick dad back in Iowa, my life is a busy, blurry, foggy, what-the-fuck-day-is-it poor excuse of a life. I honestly thought all the CHA events were tomorrow as of noon today. I am all out of sorts.

Best wishes, dude.

I get borderline-overwhelmed just managing myself, with very few big life problems (or good things, like your job and child).

Much appreciated all.

BTW, my initials are NAG, and I declared if we had a boy I’d want him to have the same initials. I tried for Nile, no shit, but the wife wouldn’t go for it (she doesn’t understand, she’s from Ohio and went to Denison). Turns out we had a boy and we settled for Nolan Aubrey. He might not be a Nile, but he sure as hell is a Hawkeye.

You still got the Iowa reference in with Aubrey, as in Aubrey Devine. Awesome!

Man, that ref let Jardine take a LOT of abuse.

The overhead shot made the convulsions look like Jardine trying to get up.

Herb just had a terrible view, which is his fault, and probably wasn’t sure how bad it was.

Dean really should’ve been on the other side, or closer so that he had a better understanding of how hurt Jardine was.

I would recommend listening to Daniel Tosh's spoiler alert for Human Centipede

That movie was bad, but not as awful as I expected. The sequel was about 10 times worse than I had expected for either it or the original. I would have stopped watching after about 20 minutes, but I paid to rent it. Out of principle, I had to make myself watch all of it.

by ManziBall on Jan 7, 2012 11:11 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah.

Here’s the first story I found about it. I didn’t bother to read it because I refuse to watch any of them.

by The Mexican't on Jan 7, 2012 11:16 PM CST up reply actions

One can only hope

fingers crossed

Actually, if you want to watch a fucked up, no hope for humanity movie, check out (or probably download [doubt you can rent it]) A Serbian Film.

It is easily the most messed up movie you can ever watch. It makes Human Centipede look like child’s play.
