Hamsterdam Likes Clashing Kings
EEEEEEEEEE
I think we're going to try the same approach that we did last week: we'll just use this thread for Hamsterdam throughout the week and keep bumping it every evening. That seemed to work pretty well. If y'all are chattier this week we'll make more threads.
The standard rules of open threading apply: no links to illegal online streams, no porn, no religion, no politics, no slurs, no douchebaggery.

I have been working my way through the books since mid-October.
Three months, some 4000 or so pages, and I’m just wrapping up Book #5, A Dance with Dragons. Caught Season 1 on reruns, and I’m very excited about Season 2…I just hope George R. R. Martin wraps up this series before he croaks.
Just as importantly, from a TV point of view...
…he has roughly four more years to write two books. The last two books took him eleven years.
To SEC, or not to SEC, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous Texas,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?
I know. I was thinking the same thing.
Worse, I heard (maybe here, I don’t remember), that they won’t be breaking up the 2nd-5th books into four books.
I will say that at this point, I’m sure he knows what the grand conclusion of the series will be and what the paths will take. It’s just a matter of filling in the blanks. Part of the problem of the last two books was that he originally tried to write both books as one in chronological order. Then, he decided to scrap that and break them into two sets of storylines and tell those chronologically. So book 5 takes place during the same time span as book 4.
meh
Book 3 will be at least two seasons of the TV show
And I would not be surprised to see 4 and 5 go that same route. But even if that weren’t the case, he has said that he’s not going to rush the books just because of the show. I also believe that the last two books won’t take as long to write as the most recent two, simply because he (hopefully) won’t have the same problems as he had with FfC and DwD (writing, rewriting, deciding to split everything into two books, and so on). Of course I could be wrong, but I think we’ll see Winds of Winter within the next two years.
Could be a mess. Hope it doesn't end up in a True Blood-type situation
where the series diverges greatly from the books. Or maybe the series sits for a few years while GRRM gets his shit together, and they follow up with a feature film – or a series of movies like “Lord of the Rings”.
Dude needs to delegate the series to his TV writers and get cracking on The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring!
HBO has been patient about shows that aren't on an annual schedule before, too.
See: SOPRANOS, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM…
I think a bigger potential problem is the aging of the younger members of the cast. It would suck if they had to recast, say, Bran or Ayra because the actors got too old.

Allow me some personal time
The wife and I were looking to move back to the Midwest to raise our kid, and I’ve just accepted a job in Schaumburg. We’ve also just signed a lease for a condo in Chicago and we’ll be moving there March 1st. Team Catnuts is moving back close to home, y’all.
I’m excited for so many parts of this, everything from the topic that I’ve got a nice starting salary and the wife will be able to be a stay-at-home mom, to the minor things like we’ll be in Chi-town in time for some St. Patty’s day fun, and also for the Northern Illinois game.

Forgot to look there!
Related: I’ll be driving our U-Haul through the southern route of New Mexico, Texas, etc to avoid driving a huge truck over the Rockies in February. Any interest in meeting up for a beer along the way? I’ll probably be passing through on February 28th or 29th sometime.

19 appears to be the winner if you're using the Narrow setting
30 is the winner in the Wide setting.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
Wide setting for the browser or for SBN?

Seriously, what rhymes with twelve?
According to online rhyming dictionaries, only two words:
delve
shelve
Still no rhymes for “orange”

This lyric has always bothered me to a highly irrational level
Isn’t the whole fucking point of the song that he’s lonely that he’s only ONE now, a single person? Isn’t the entire fucking goal to get to two? So how is it that two “can be as bad as one, it’s the loneliest number since the number one”? ANGER.

Rutgers just released salary info for their new coach.
Base of $750k, escalating $100k each year. I can’t imagine Cristobal is making much more than that at FIU. Makes one wonder why he really walked away from the Rutgers offer.
Florida vs New Jersey, maybe.

We will become more intensity!!! --What Reading Rambler thinks Tom Brands should do.
Yeah, I just saw the Miles deal.
Tressel can do as he wants. It’s unlikely he ends up at a big time school, anyway. His punishment was a bit of a joke, so whichever school (apparently Akron) has no problem watching him sit 5 games before taking over as full time head coach should definitely do it.
Miles insulting Kiel for staying in Indiana to be closer to family is stupid and I hope it’s used by coaches nationwide to keep future blue chip recruits from heading to Louisiana.

It's 5 YEARS
not five games. Part of the show-cause penalty imposed by the NCAA on him specifically.
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.
That's the show-cause penalty.
If a school is able to convince the NCAA that they have reason enough to hire Tressel he need only sit out 5 games and then he’s free to go about his business. Andy Staples wrote an article in December suggesting that Akron hire Tressel. Here’s the bit that matters:
But the COI blew it in Tressel’s case. The committee gave Tressel a five year show-cause, but the penalty only has teeth for the first five weeks of Tressel’s first season, when he must miss games. He also must miss that season’s bowl game.

Todd McShay's most recent mock draft
has Riley Reiff going at #3 overall. Remember, however, that this is Todd McShay’s thought process.
I spent half my life's earnings on wine, women & song. The other half I wasted.
It makes sense if Kalil goes second.
Kiper also has the Vikings taking an OT at #3, but I believe he has Blackmon going second to STL, so Kalil is still available and heads to Minnesota, leaving Reiff for the Chiefs.
by The Mexican't on Feb 3, 2012 10:47 AM CST up reply actions
If the Vikings don't take an OT with their pick, they are mega-stupid.
They also need a big-time WR, but I’d rather take my chances with Kalil or Reiff than Blackmon.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
I think that's the general consesus.
The Rams are the team Kiper has picking up Blackmon. Every mock I’ve seen has the best OT available going to Minnesota.
