OMHR and Illinois barely count

don’t get me wrong, I’m glad we didn’t all lose, but those were winnable games. It would have been nice if the MSU wasn’t the only team to win games that people actually watched.

Exactly.

If the Colts DON’T draft Luck it will be the dumbest move by a pro team ever. I realize there are no “sure” things but Luck is a pretty good shot at being a sure thing, and his neck isn’t, to the best of everyone’s knowledge, just about FUBAR.

Hell, if I were Manning I’d probably medically retire anyway. You know, you kind of need your neck and spine…

by The Bird Cult on Jan 2, 2012 8:44 PM CST up reply actions

The Colts need more than a QB.

I’d see no problem with them trading the pick for 2 or 3 extra picks and attempting to shore up other issues.

by The Mexican't on Jan 2, 2012 9:06 PM CST up reply actions

They have to deal Manning.

You’re right; they have a lot of issues personnel-wise. Drafting a franchise QB is the most important thing (e.g. Manning, Peyton). Outside of Jay Cutler, you’re not going to be able to pick up a Pro Bowl-level QB otherwise. I’m sure they can find a team who’ll take a chance on Manning’s iffy neck and be able to get some picks (maybe even a player) for him. It’s probably not the most popular decision in Indianapolis since PM’s been the face of that franchise for more than a decade now, but it’s probably the smart one.

Sounds similar to Montana or Steve Young

except that Luck will be a rookie, whereas Young had played for a few years.

Also, if the Luck-led Colts don’t win big within 3 to 5 years, and if Manning has any good years left, the fans might not be forgiving.

That's stupid

this is a business. You take your chances, and Papa Manning’s words mean exactly dick.
To put it another way, I believe Belichick would draft Luck. And if necessary, give Brady his walking papers. It’ll be ugly, but it worked out with regards to Drew Bledsoe

I think the Colts draft Luck,

and let Manning play his way out of the starting spot. It will be expensive, and I don’t know how long or if Manning can still play, but that day will come at some point.

But, it will probably also mean they won’t have the cash to re-sign some of their other older players (Saturday, etc).

It is weird. I thought firing the Polians might be a move toward what Manning wanted, but this article makes it sound like Peyton was not expecting it.

My Mom passed away New Year’s Eve in 2009. The funeral home was closed the next day, but Saturday morning, the phone in the house rings at 9 am, telling me I need to come in and sign the paperwork for cremation, death certificate, etc.

I check the temperature. Its – 17F. Now that’s fucking cold. And I had a good North Face 3-1 coat for the conditions, and was nice and toasty… and I bought it at REI here in California. It gets cold up in the Sierras too.

You had to see her on TV, the whining was epic. People complain in Iowa too but its more in that stoic “we can take it, bring it on” sort of way. Her problem, honestly, was she had a shitty Columbia brand winter “hoodie” with the KCRA emblem on it. That’s a great coat with a sweater as long as there’s no wind and the temp is 40 or higher. :)

I'll take your word that she was too whiny.

But it was quite cold last night, and I assume, today (I only stepped out today to grab my mail from the mailbox).

Driving back from Arizona, I got out of the car at an Ames gas station and it was very windy and quite cold. Wind in most of Iowa last night was 25 to 40 mph from the northwest. Wind chills were down to single digits, and regular temps were in the 20s, I think. It was quite a gut-punch after the unusually warm winter we’ve had so far.

Aside from the part where my dad wouldn’t let me get back in the tractor after I opened a gate, I had to close it. He told me to stand w/ my back to the wind. Awesome advise dad, thanks. I used the bunk as a wind break in addition to my back.

I don't think PSU fans would be happy for long with Bielema.

You guys need to find a young guy, who you will not fire for about a decade (unless he goes full retard and runs someone over while drunk or something).

Bielema is not that guy.

If you can’t get Chris Petersen, get someone like him. (I don’t think Dan Mullen fits that description).

I’m not wild about the cavalcade of NFL guys they seem to be considering, but I wasn’t wild about Ferentz at first, either. Still, I think you need a guy that media, fans and players can like while PSU goes through what I think will be at least a couple years of struggle. Basically, you need someone like Hayden Fry circa 1973.

I hear Mike Gundy is trying to get an extension from Okie State. If he doesn’t would he consider big money from PSU? Maybe.

by txhawkeye on Jan 2, 2012 9:31 PM CST up reply actions

why don't you think Bielema could last at PSU

He may be a douche, and he may make some poor in game decisions. But he wins. A lot so far. 4 double digit win seasons in 6 years (and a 9 win season). 2 BigTen titles. 2 Rose Bowls.

You may not like him, but that’s pretty good.

by Ratface McDougal on Jan 2, 2012 9:31 PM CST up reply actions

Well, he hasn't won those two Rose Bowls.

And I think some PSU fans would not like him for long.

Also, BB had quite a program set up for him. Maybe PSU is in the same shape, or maybe not.

Finally, I’m not sure you go the route of hiring a guy away from another team in your division. I’m trying to think of the last time something like that happened, much less worked out.

Yeah, they tried to use him quite a bit.

He had a few drops, Oklahoma broke up a few passes, and some of the passes were just really bad.

I wasn't really trying to start an argument.

I was at the game, but hadn’t watched the TV version yet, and hadn’t looked at the stats. Also, I haven’t gone back to read the gamethreads here at BHGP.

Still, if I was working with a third string RB, I think I’d have found a way to get McNutt the ball more than 4 successful times.

We will become more intensity!!! --What Reading Rambler thinks Tom Brands should do.

by WaterlooChazz on Jan 2, 2012 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

I guess I am a bit confused

They drew up over 10 plays where if he was not the primary option he was an option. Oklahoma did a great job defending him, he dropped a few, and Vandy missed some of his throws. That seems like a pretty huge percentage of plays that they tried to get him the ball on.

DRUNJIFORNICATION

by SaturdayMorningKegStanzis on Jan 2, 2012 10:26 PM CST up reply actions

I think they tried, but OU had decided to do everything necessary to shut down McNutt.

Considering he was Iowa’s only offensive weapon, it was probably easier than it would have been if Coker were allowed to play. Getting the ball to KMM and Davis should have been enough to open up McNutt, but I don’t think Davis was able to do enough to allow McNutt the space to make more plays. When an offense is one-dimensional, as Iowa’s was on Friday, it’s easy to make them look like complete failures.

by The Mexican't on Jan 2, 2012 10:27 PM CST up reply actions

Oklahoma had an NFL quality CB on him

He couldn’t get separation as far as I could see which may not bode well for him next year. It also says a lot about the quality of WR we have had here.
