Rewatching the dollars trilogy

thanks to dmgmeg for the inspiration, even if she doesn’t fully appreciate the man with no name.

This is the kind of thing that I wonder about after

According to the first inflation calculator I found and assuming a date of 1870. The 67K in bounties (10k for Indio, 17k for the rest of his men combined and 40k for returning the stolen cash) Manco takes home after For a Few Dollars More is equal to 1.15mil today.

Wait, wait, wait. It's a trilogy?

I guess I never thought about it.

I have A Fist Full of Dollars on my DVR at the moment is there any point in me watching it if don’t watch them all? If It’s the first one I might as well but if it’s the third one there isn’t any point, right?

by Carfino'sWay on Sep 21, 2011 10:58 PM CDT up reply actions

it's debatable whether it's actually the same character in each

watch all 3, the order doesn’t matter.

A Fist Full of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More

personally I don't believe it's the same guy

there are common actors besides Eastwood who can’t be the same character, and there’s a different’ personality to each of Eastwood’s “Man with no Name”s.

it's called a trilogy because it was the same director, composer and star with some common supporting actors through all 3.

the non Eastwood actors play quite different characters

and there are differences in the Eastwood characters, but it’s just a debate as to whether it’s the result of character development or they are different men in each.

they really subvert the usual morality. The villains are villains, but protagonist(s) aren’t actually good people either.

Yeah. It was pretty great. So stylized and yet spot on.

And it was non-American. The Director is from Denmark. Check out the Pusher trilogy or Valhalla Rising. He makes films unlike anyone else.

eh, I guess you could call it non-American.

the original author was american. lots of american producers. american actors.

I knew the director was Danish; just didn’t know that made it non-american without reference to the style of the movie.

Anyway, Pusher will actually arrive in the mail tomorrow from Netflix. Very excited.

Hugh Jackman is a co-founder of something like the 4th production company and he was whom the movie was originally for. But when Gosling got it, he got the choice of director and chose Refn. What a team. And I love Carey Mulligan.

I have a problem. In the last week, I think I've had dreams that have included BHGP twice. Twice!

One of them mixed Hamsterdam and my work, and I think in the other one I had one of those talent-seeking TV show on that I was only kind of listening to, and they said Jacobi was one of the judges. I recall thinking “what a cheap ploy to get more hits on BHGP”. Then I came on here to post that he was on TV, and you all told me that it wasn’t true.

There’s something wrong with me while I sleep…

I was at the mall tonight and there was a woman that looked to be around my age looking for an outfit to go to the Taylor Swift concert.

A couple things stood out to me.
—When did concerts start requiring new outfits?
—Why do women have to dress alike to go to concerts? Won’t you be sitting with your friends? Shouldn’t you be able to find them because you are sitting with them?
—What 30something women is jacked about going to Taylor Swift? Probably one that is super into Twilight.
