2011 Big Ten Football Preview: Who Will Win The IlliBuck Division?

Illibuck_5b1_5d_medium

Like we said yesterday, because Legends and Leaders is (still) stupid and because East and West is mildly incoherent thanks to the Wisconsin-Michigan Paradox (and because jNW and Illinois are also split, I guess), but divisions still need names, dammit.  Calling it The IlliBuck division doesn't mean a damn thing for the 2/3 of the teams in the division, but whatever.  In any event, the season is just days away, which means it's time for us to put a marker down on who's going to win things.  The contenders:

ILLINOIS
Pros:
In Scheelhaase we trust.  Hooray for competent assistant coaches!
Cons: Zook'd.  Y U NO STAY, 2010 BEST PLAYERS?

INDIANA
Pros:
#SAVEUSGUNNER.  Kevin Wilson knows offense.  Damarlo Belcher catches everything...
Cons: ... except when he doesn't.  What's a quarterback?  Defense is for other teams

OHIO STATE
Pros:
Still Ohio State.  Chip, meet shoulder.  Luke Fickell, cagefighter M.D.
Cons: Requiem for a Senator.  Pourin' out a 40 for TPeezy.  Scandal, scandal, scandal.

PENN STATE
Pros:
Returning starters ahoy!  Defense wins something or other.  Silas Redd is running back people.
Cons: Gingers are for mocking, not quarterbacking.  Offensive lines should not say "ole!"

PURDUE
Pros:
Danny Hope's mustache is set to DETERMINED.  Riccy-Riccy-Riccardo!
Cons: ACLOCAPYPSE NOW!  What's a Caleb TerBush?  OMHR.

WISCONSIN
Pros:
Ball/White 2011!  Russell Wilson is love.  Chris Borland can fly.
Cons: The hol(e)y offensive line is missing the chosen left tackle.  Where the Watt at?

Who ya got?

I hate the Wisconsin is the choice

But I can’t buy Penn State and Ohio State HAS to struggle with the mess they’re dealing with.

we could use a couple

6’2" 280lbs orcs for our D-line. We need some of that mud.

The only game that might be up in the air for tOSU

is MSU, I know Miami is going to be rough but they lost 8 guys last week. A little hard to game plan around losing that much talent in 3 weeks. I would imagine tOSU will be able to win this one. MSU is going to come in pumped up, knowing this is their best shot. MSU is typically good for one big win a year and I think this is going to be it. They are also good for head scratching losses, see Wisco.

I am not sold on Wisco being able to beat tOSU, with everyone back and Wisco isn’t going to be quite as dominate as they were last year in that game. One conference loss is going to look pretty good, Wisco vs MSU is going to go a long way to deciding tOSU’s fate. I pick Wisco in that game and tOSU wins on a tie breaker.

I thought most of the Miami suspensions were only like 1 game.

Yup, I am getting my suspensions mixed up

Miami will have 5 of the 8 back. The three that are gone are the TE, Safety and DE. All appear to be impact players but 3 is a lot easier to swallow than 8.

This place is a damn Wisconsin blog sometimes.

Jeez, gimme a break.

Now let's go surprise Harry Heth!

I voted PSU. Why? Let’s see:
MSU – Sparty, no
tOSU – coach’s name should be Skippy
Wisconsin – fuck them
IL, IN, OMHR – HAHAHAHAHA

Seeing as how my vote is irrelevant with how this will play out, I’m buying the purple drank Rambler’s been pounding out in Amishland.

Oh NO!!! Where’s the edit function! Ignore MSU above. These damn divisions are killing me.

All the M's and N's are evil too.

Well, yeah.

But less evil because Iowa’s in the Hero Division.

by The Mexican't on Sep 1, 2011 10:51 AM CDT up reply actions

OMG

All the M’s & N’s are in our division & LegeNd has an ‘N’ in it!!! (Yes, I just figured that out. I may be slow but i still get there, eventually.) Now, at least I can remember who goes who AND which dumb division name goes with which teams. What a relief!

Hey, I think Wisky is gonna be the one, but I'm tired of seeing their name, so I voted PSU.

OSU

I’ll happily own the idiocy of this pick if/when someone knocks them off. Until then . . .

by stewartom on Sep 1, 2011 9:27 AM CDT reply actions

PSU

and here is why. I think that Defense is going to be great this year. Defense wins championships. Also, I can’t stand Wisco or OSU.

This is a truly rational thing.

If Wisconsin would have had a ginger QB, they'd have won the Rose Bowl last year.

So PSU and their ginger QB get my vote.

Wisconsin

will be good, but just when they need to “scratch where it itches” and run the ball down someone’s throat they will think that they are the San Diego Chargers and start throwing the ball on every down. This will result in a few inexplicable losses. Everyone that watched the game will know they were the better team if they had only run the ball. Chryst will be inconsolable and Biliema will be a massive douche bag. In related news grass is green.

It doesn’t matter who wins this division because Iowa will take them out in the championship game anyways. I have seen it well wearing my magic rose colored glasses that allow me to see the future.

Me and Herbstreit are eveidently smoking the same thing. He picked OSU to beat Iowa in the championship game. Which is 50% expected and 50% crazy. I have never seen him not pick OSU in a game and I don’t think I have ever seen him pick Iowa for anything.

Our Johnson is bigger and better than LA's Johnson so suck it.

they will tear an ACL reaching for it

I voted for IU

and I did it just to fuck with people.

And, I was hoping to be the lone vote for them but apparently there are way too many readers around here looking for something to do before 2:15 pm.

If I’m gonna be wrong, at least I can tell my trainer (a former PSU TE) that I voted for his team. Oh, I like it when the Rambler is happy.

by ReadingRambler on Sep 2, 2011 11:21 AM CDT up reply actions

Wisky was better than O$U last year.

With O$U losing a lot more than Wisky did, plus the Badgers snagging Russell Wilson to fill their most glaring hole on offense, I think they’ll be better than O$U again this year.

PSU’s defense should give them a shot, but I’m still not ready to bet on their O.
