Hi guys. I graduated from Iowa in '95 and haven't been to a game since '98 or '99. I'm planning on going to the game w/ a buddy from high school and possibly my cousin. I have a few questions about how to make the most of being in town for a game for the first time in over a decade. Hopefully you guys have some answers that will help me and possibly others plan out the first Saturday of IOWA HAWKEYE FOOTBALL 2011!
First off, most importantly- is there a BHGP tailgate? If so, where? Any requirements besides non-nudity?
I'm probably driving up early that morning from Davenport. Where should I park? What spot can I leave my car in the longest/latest? I won't have any kids and am planning on doing some partying.
What time should I try and get to my parking spot by? When do cars have to be gone by after the game? Can I leave it in a mall parking lot and walk to the train ride?
I have some people searching already, but how difficult will it be to pick up a couple of tickets before the game from scalpers? Is that even an option? How much $$$ am I looking at?
What exactly are the tailgating rules? Can I walk around carrying a 12 pack? Should I be drinking from a plastic cup, or have a beer coozy or paper bag or something? Thoughts on airline mini bottles of booze?
Are there still any parties that charge a cover where there are kegs?
Are backpacks allowed in Kinnick? (without beer or alcohol of course)
What is there to do after a game? Any suggestions on watching additional college football at a bar downtown?
Any additional tips on not getting arrested or in trouble (besides the obvious "don't be stupid and don't start trouble.")
Are there any other suggestions, words of wisdom or general information that might be of use to a long time Hawkeye who hasn't been to a game in Iowa City for a long time?
Many thanks to everyone who responds with some good info!
