parking question from Iowa City airport
I'm flying into the Iowa City airport (not Cedar Rapids) for some of the games this year. It's a fairly easy walk as an adult, but I'm bringing my young son and want to keep the stroll reasonable. I can rent a car a the airport (I know, it seems silly for the 4 miles or so) but I wondered if anyone had suggestions for convenient parking between the airport and the stadium? I won't be tailgating, I just need a place to leave the car for a few hours. I don't mind walking to the stadium, but I don't want to have to wait in traffic too long after the game while I zip back to the airport.
I really welcome everyone's input. Thanks.

I CAN HELP!
There are a lot of options for you; a couple that I’m thinking of are not between the stadium and airport per se, but are free. Here is a map of what the University offers…

Red areas have Cambus shuttle services – Hancher is more popular, so there will be more frequent buses postgame but the Hawkeye commuter lot could make it very easy to get back to the airport I believe.
Another really good option would be the lot marked ‘S’ on the map – you could easily get back toward the airport via Gilbert St. This lot is south of the Main Library and new Rec Center, near the motor pool buildings, but it’s pretty walkable to the stadium from there and you can catch a shuttle bus from Washington Street by the Old Capitol Mall center.
I used to work for the Cambus that provides the shuttle service and have parked at a couple of those lots for games/working for games. The ones from Hancher can be lots of fun, because there are sometimes groups that like to sing.

Hawkeye commuter lot is a good option
But here’s a protip for getting out. Do NOT go south on Mormon Trek beyond Melrose. Take a left on Melrose and go up to the barricade on Emerald St (entrance to Finkbine) and take a right. Go left on Benton and go all the way to Riverside. The only snarl is sometimes turning left on Benton can take a few minutes. This is how I got back to the east side after every game for the last two seasons and I was always home (Muscatine and Scott, fyi) in 15 minutes, max. So maybe 10 minutes to the airport.
Where you gonna park that car?
Unless you get in really early, you’re still gonna have a nice hike.
Two options:
1) Take a cab. The downside is after the game, that cab won’t get anywhere near Kinnick.
2) Take a bus. There is a bus stop just a block or two north of the airport, across from the IC Transit facility. I have no idea what the schedules are on game day anymore, but you can call them and ask. If ICT isn’t running past Kinnick, you can transfer over to a Cambus game shuttle by Shafer Hall. It drops you off by the VA. After the game, the Cambus shuttle would be your best bet to get back downtown. From there it’s a cab or ICT back to the airport.

Seconding that.
It’s 1.9 miles on Google via Myrtle. Don’t know the age of your son or what you’re flying, but I would consider the public transit options, or breaking a bike (and childseat down), and throwing it in the back.

Are you chartering a plane, or own a plane yourself?
I didn’t think you could fly commercially out of the iowa city airport.

Great feedback, everyone. I really appreciate it.
The more I look at it, the more I think maybe I’ll get a cab TO the stadium, and just walk back.
to answer AA’s point: I’m flying “my” plane (owned with a couple of other guys). You’re right that there’s no commercial service into Iowa City.
The bike idea is really intriguing. I’m going to think about that, it may be the right solution.
Thanks again, guys. I really appreciate it. If anyone ever needs guidance regarding the DFW metroplex, I’d be happy to return the favor.
Here's an absurd alternative
You could rent a car to drive all the way to Coral Ridge to ride the train back to the station, then ride the train back out to Coralville, to get in your rental and drive back to the airport. I think the train would be kind of fun to ride at least once.

The train is fun (and I admit I'm a bit biased)
but it kind of kills off post-game tailgating/shenanigans because they don’t make a late run – just back and forth immediately after the game ends until the crowd has thinned out.
Still a neat idea for the kiddo, though.
