I got into a debate about whether or not the dog really understood what was happening
It doesn’t really matter since we can’t know our pets’ emotions. But it’s like whatever love-type substance my dog has for me, I’m not going to question it anymore.
I think they know, just from what I've witnessed myself
When my dad died 10 years ago, one of our family dogs—who was very close to my dad—was just so sad all the time. He ended up dying 3 months to the day after my dad died. We buried his ashes on top of where we buried my father’s ashes. My dad had always said he wanted to be buried with Barney, so it just seemed right.
