Actually, I love the symphony. My in-laws used to have a subscription to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I’d go with my MIL thru the winter. Also, LOVE it when they play at their outdoor venue (Ravinia). Pack up some dinner, grab a blanket, some wine & a lack of cards- makes for a lovely evening.

Excuse me if this is a ridiculous question, but, having had hearing impairment, is there any inclination to prefer music with a lot of vibration?
Parsimony methods are the easiest ones to explain - Felsenstein
I have a background in music.
And I think I’m an unique case in people with cochlear implants in that I actually enjoy music. I tend to gravitate towards music wherein the lyrics can be easily separated from the music OR if the music itself is purely instrumental. TSO tends to be pretty awesome. I love listening to them using the Bose system in the truck.
by EnergizerHawk on Aug 19, 2011 8:30 PM CDT up reply actions
But that's not to say that I don't enjoy the loud vibrating bass in the music I listen to.

Any instrumental music is great and so is dancing without hearing aids to bass heavy beats. Kinda sucks though missing out on the “story” of a song.

Market Days was an absolute blast
This year it coincided with my better half’s birthday. Saturday we played Lisa Frank Beer Pong (which is exactly what it sounds like…a bunch of queers making a frat game as faggy as humanly possible). My roommate and I dominated. One of my girlfriends was questioning how I could be so good at Beer Pong…one of my friends said, and I quote: “Duh. He went to Iowa.”
The festival was fun, but we only went on Sunday because of the shitty weather on Saturday. It was nice, but it was incredibly packed. The highlight was definitely Lisa Lisa (I know, from Carmina Burana to Lisa Lisa…).

That is a tough question about getting Directv
I was a Directv owner for 7 years. I cancelled my subscription because we moved and we are temporarily in an apartment.
The Sunday Ticket is good, but only if you are determined to watch all season long, if you don’t then every Sunday where you are not watching 3 to 5 games you think to yourself that you spent all this money for games you are not watching.
Directv’s customer service is for shit. They suck and Directv raises their prices every six months to a year.
So with that, think about it before you make the decision.

kicks the hell out of Comcast.
WOW just ran lines to the neighborhood and I think u-verse is coming as well.

I haven't noticed too big of a difference in picture quality between the two
but I do notice i can keep my price low by threatening Comcast that I am going to cancel and they keep giving my sign on price. Directv would be like ok just go then and don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Let me tell you a little something about Uverse.
I signed up for it tonight and it will be 2 1/2 weeks until my appointment. I have to cancel my Time Warner by Thursday or be locked in for a year. For those playing along at home that means 2 weeks w/o cable or internet. HUH!?!? Not okay.
Oh and did I mention that the guy offered me an additional $50 promo card b/c the wait is so long but my chat got cut off b/4 it was put on my account? Yeah, that happened.

No, that is actually the good thing.
The plan I chose is $43 off/month for the first 6 months and you can cancel at any time. I also get 3 months of HBO/Skinamax for free which I can cancel at any time. Plus a $100 promo card. It is a good deal. Overall it is about $200 cheaper for the year than TW and if there is a better deal after 6 months I can get that. TW doesn’t let you do that.

I'm annoyed that I can't get anyone on the phone.
I called the phone number in Google and every single prompt gave me a different phone number than the one I dialed and it was the same number. For the love! List that number instead. Many Scorcese films may be over-rated,
But few of his films that I’ve seen have sucked. Goodfellas is good-to-great, but it does drag a bit when it becomes only about Liotta and DeNiro.
Casino and the Departed are decent, maybe not awesome. Gangs of NY would have been better as two movies, but I still like it I like the Aviator. Taxi Driver was interesting but too slow for me (partly because I’m only 30 years old), and I don’t think I’ve seen his other stuff.

Being in Omaha, he is disappointed that das Huskers get so much media coverage both in Omaha and Lincoln. He would like to read about the Hawkeyes, I guess, every day, even if there’s nothing truly interesting-even if he doesn’t learn anything.
I suggested the East Iowa papers and even DMR, but he said, a) the DMR thinks they’re a state-wide paper so they don’t focus on Iowa any more than anyone else, and b) the East Iowa papers (I guess generally lumped together) don’t really have that great of writing on a consistent basis.
I find all I need to know here, so I have never searched diligently. Apparently, he doesn’t want to wait for INPIYL2I every day and would just rather search/browse himself. Can the BHGP community help out and give me some good links to papers and/or blogs and/or whatever else he should go to?
Thank you.

he also threw an Interception, but, ya know, thats Stanzi.

Suarez really is great.
As is Meireles, though he may be gone soon, which would be a bit of a bummer. I’ve taken to Jose Enrique. He looks like he could be an action-movie villain and he does well when he comes forward to help build on the attack. I’m quite excited.

Far be it from me to question 3-time Coach of the Year Andy Reid
But was it really such a great move to trade Kolb for a nickel back? I mean they’re not even going to start Rodgers-Cromartie. The 2nd rd pick is whatever. Also, they went out and gave Vince Young like $5million (which he quickly rewarded them by calling the Eagles the Dream Team and multiplying the hate and expectations by 100) to be their back-up. Am I just overthinking this? To me it’s a stupid move.
Perhaps my best years are gone... but I wouldn't want them back. Not with the fire in me now. No, I wouldn't want them back.
I don't think it was necessarily an "upgrade in talent" move.
More that they knew it unlikely they would re-sign him next year unless Vick got hurt, and they wanted to get something for him. I also think a 2nd round pick from the Cardinals is pretty good. The best values in football (at least pre-CBA) was in the 20s and 30s and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where the Cardinals end up. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rodgers-Cromartie ends up with near the same snaps as Samuel. DRC is also 24 while the two other corners are 30.
I think it is sorta dumb because I don’t think Vick will be near as good as he was last year, and they’ll miss Kolb. But if you (as the Eagles are) are convinced that Vick is legitimate and that Kolb will bolt after this year, I think it makes some sense. Still not a great trade, but decent. In their mind, I’m sure they’re thinking they got a great Nickel guy and a 2nd rounder only for a “slight” downgrade in a back-up (in their mind, not mine) QB and a couple million dollars. If they see it as that, meh. But I do disagree with them in their premise.
meh
I think Vick is going to be a little like Favre with Minnesota
From treasure to trash. The book is out on this guy, as it was with Atlanta. He’ll be a good fantasy player but I don’t see him leading a team.
And I thought Kolb was locked up for a few more years under contract with the Eagles… if not the trade makes a little more sense but I still don’t see letting a “+” QB go for a nickel back and a future pick.
Perhaps my best years are gone... but I wouldn't want them back. Not with the fire in me now. No, I wouldn't want them back.

Breaking news:

We're gonna go America all over their asses!
Kola is unproven.
Philly probably realizes they are close enough to a super bowl appearance that they can gamble a bit on backups if it means locking down the opponents’ passing game.
The part I don’t like is that they brought in VY. They probably have Vick at the point where he won’t embarrass them off the field, only to bring in a guy who showed a possible suicidal mind frame in Nashville. What happens if VY is forced to start and has a couple bad games?
Then again, my Niners have Alex Smith, Kaepernick, and some guy who never even played a full season at Sacramento State, so who am I to judge?

They've been a feeder team for all of Europe since Wenger got there.
Outside of Bergkamp (who took paycuts out of his love for Arsenal) they’ve sold almost every top-flight player they’ve had over the last 13 years. They’ve done it to invest in younger talent but apparently all the young talent they invest in is made of glass.

The idea of investing in young talent is brilliant.
Except that the kids don’t seem to respect the club enough to play out their primes at Arsenal.
by The Mexican't on Aug 20, 2011 9:54 PM CDT up reply actions
Playing out their primes has never been the plan.
They’ve never tried to “invest” so much as use Wenger’s scouting talents (which is unrivaled in all of Europe, I will fight you to the death on this) and raise the profile of the kid enough to sell him for a song after just a few years. In theory, even with only a few years, the talent is so good it should still translate into wins. However, think about all the time over the past few seasons where Van Persie, Fabergas, Thomas Rosicky, et.al have been injured. They certainly suffer from putting all their eggs in one basket.

I wonder if you'd need to chop down roster sizes a little bit.

The NFL is now making it illegal to tackle with the shoulder as well.
They have the best product in the world. So this year they’ve changed the kickoff rule (stupid and it will also bring scoring down) and also made a rule that ALL touchdowns will be reviewed by instant replay. Great job, competition committee!

I can't decide if the side judge completely fucked the Gooners by not calling offsides, or if he let it slide because Suarez never touched the ball.

Works for me.
When he and Suarez play together Liverpool is a completely different attacking side. Booming it up to Carroll isn’t going to do any good.
Also, I wish Jose Enrique would take a fucking shot. He was wide open on at least two occasions today and opted to feed it into the box instead of firing at the frame.

"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
I agree.
I think he was only expected to pocket 12-15 goals this year, with Carroll benefitting nicely from Suarez’s creativity. Kuyt should be taking the penalties and Charlie Adams will be the free kick taker. If Suarez keeps up his goal scoring form, though, he may net 20.

Hey Kyle
I think Bolton is the clubhouse leader for Worst Kits this year, at least in the EPL.

Although I guess they’re just upholding the tradition:

"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
The sponsor is terrible
the kits are just boring and vaguely 90’s.
By the way, there’s a simple beauty to Wigan’s 3rd shirts.

The asymmetrical panels of color are just awful.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
Those Wigan kits are nice, though.
The away ones aren’t too bad, either, although the neon panel on the side kind of ruins things a bit.
That might be the most tasteful sponsor logo I’ve ever seen on a soccer shirt.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
Not only are these tasteful
but it might be my favorite sponsor ever.

Too bad Leeds isn't in the EPL this year
