The Sioux City Curse strikes again!
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
How dumb do you have to be, really?
"No I'm not going to 'limber up'. You ever see a lion stretching before it takes down a gazelle?"
He's 17
Isn’t the intelligence level of them a well established fact around here.
Confession time – 18, discovered THC as a freshman in college, good bye National Merit Scholarship and music performance scholarship. Not because of arrest, just because of performance. Stupid? Yes in hindsight. But I was 18, so I didn’t care…
True, the age of intelligence hasn't yet been reached by this young man.
"No I'm not going to 'limber up'. You ever see a lion stretching before it takes down a gazelle?"
seriously, some people are not bright AND have shitty parents.
You’re not going to start making good decisions for a long while, if ever.

SC Journal has a more complete story up.
In the old days, you didn’t get your life damaged for drinking a six pack and blowing a doobie on the levee. But I won’t get started on that. This is a bummer.

Interesting
So, I’m not a lawyer so I don’t know how this works and I’m really just curious, but how can someone else (the passenger) that doesn’t own the car or the bag that was in the car give permission to the police to search the bag that doesn’t belong to him? I would imagine if the police were able to do this anyway they wouldn’t need permission, but if they did need permission how is this legal? Isn’t it like your neighbor giving police permission to search your home (which wouldn’t happen)? That would be an unlawful search and anything found would be inadmissible, right? That part of the story just seemed shady as hell.

They could've searched it through inevitable discovery
Because the car was going to be impounded anyway. Plus, when someone gets out and runs that pretty much gives you PC right there. The cop could’ve done it without permission from the passenger so I find it interesting that they even put that in there in the first place.
Yeah, that was my thing
Why say they asked for and received permission to search if they didn’t need it?

They probably didn't
And probably just put it in there in an attempt to cover their asses. Cops lie. Just an FYI.
I was going to ask if the crack squad at the SID had any comment, then I remembered they can't talk about guys that haven't signed LOIs.
Thoughts on if he still comes to Iowa, or has he blown his opportunity?
"No I'm not going to 'limber up'. You ever see a lion stretching before it takes down a gazelle?"
I think they will wait until the dust settles,
or at least that is what I hope they would do if it was me. If the kid gets convicted, then I believe, all bets would be off, and they would pull the schollie.
We're gonna go America all over their asses!
They don't talk about guys who have signed LOI's
Example = Wegher and Hubbard.
All my good friends at BHGP helpled pick this most awesome name!

Yep, I covered that. But will he still end up at Iowa was the question that was posed.
"No I'm not going to 'limber up'. You ever see a lion stretching before it takes down a gazelle?"
I'm betting he will
That assumes that none of the law enforcement types are out to prove a point and let him plead to a minor misdemeanor or two. He pays a fine, does some community service and it gets wiped from his record in a few years if he keeps his nose clean.
Booze and running from the cops naked won’t get you booted from the team. That’s a proven fact.

Just to continue playing the role of contrarian:
Was Reiff different because he was already on campus? This kid hasn’t even finished high school.
"No I'm not going to 'limber up'. You ever see a lion stretching before it takes down a gazelle?"
I certainly hope not
this is such a minor thing. Kid drinks beer, runs away from cops, gets caught anyway.
Unless Ferentz is a complete dick, I think we’ll see this guy on campus.
It’s not like he beat the hell out of a cabbie.

I don't know.
I think Ferentz might be looking to actually clean up drug issues with the program now. And one easy way is to not bring in guys who have drug issues (albeit, slight in this case).
Guy is a 3-star and 92nd RB in this year. We can find a replacement next year.
I’m not saying we have to ditch this kid, but I won’t cry if we do.

Was there every any proof
of a big drug problem in the program? Rumors, yes. But actual evidence? DJK’s problem just proved there was one guy smoking some weed. I think that happens on roughly 100% of the football teams in America that feature players older than 15.

Even just the proven cases seem bad enough to me.
Djk, a rob, Cleveland, and a couple more I’m not thinking of.

I don't know
Something tells me this kid never makes it to Iowa. At this point, there are enough data points in Ferentz’s career that seem to indicate he takes a much, much more stringent line with any kind of drug charge than alcohol, even if it is no “worse” than your usual, run-of-the-mill underage drinking charge. Not saying its right or wrong, just that it seems to be Ferentz’s policy.

That was my thought too. If it had been a case of busch light or something instead of a pipe,
he probably comes to Iowa, spends some QT in the doghouse and moves on, assuming he keeps his nose clean. With the introduction of drugs, he’s probably screwed, in my opinion.
"No I'm not going to 'limber up'. You ever see a lion stretching before it takes down a gazelle?"
That would be bad,
But not really excuse much.

I've been in this kid's shoes (though my shoes were far less talented)
Personally I hope he fights the charge, wins, learns something from it, and moves on.
