Suicidal Koalas Invade Hamsterdam
Just watch it.
They're so cute until they're passed out on the floor in a pool of their own vomit, clutching at a bottle of pills. But that's just how Hamsterdam rolls sometimes. The history of the 'dam is here. And don't forget that unlike gifts from fairy godmothers, Hamsterdam's powers do not expire at midnight -- you can keep using it for all your off-topic needs into the following day.
If you demand a translation, it's after the jump.
Translation:
Guy: I tried my best in the match yesterday. I shouted, I cried, I laughed. I emptied my guts.
I think I don't have feelings anymore.
Koala: Without feelings? Listen to this.
Song: I'm blind, I'm tiny and I run slow.
I always wanted to love and be loved.
But my wife keeps me in bed with her plush toys while she loves somebody else.
Koala is my name and miserable my surname.
Because of being hairy I bleed when I shave.
When I jump my rotula dislocates without reason.
When I love deeply my heart shatters.
I like masked superheros. I guess I'm a damn midget full of complexes.
If all this wasn't enough, I got another big problem.
When I'm happy I look like a fucking idiot.
Girl chorus: Poor animal with 42 centimeters of unhappiness.
Koala: Were you moved?
Guy: No.
Claim: GETAFE. Empty of feelings. Until next season.

Ha!
How do you know I don’t want an attack koala to sic on McCann’t my enemies?

Fair point.
Good luck training that koala.
Pro Tip: Have lots of eucalyptus leaves on hand.

Train him?
I’m just gonna keep him in a bag and throw it at my enemies and close the door.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
Yep.
And luckily, the battle between the koala and McCann’t my enemies will be fair because they’re the same size.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
Pointless aside:
remember the Simpson’s where they sneak into the zoo after close and see the animals behaving differently than they do during normal hours i.e. a “pack” of koalas devouring a deer carcass, blood running down their faces? Yeah, good times.

They should call a "pack" of koalas a massacre.

There needs to be more policy alignment with the NFL
It seems that the biggest troublemakers aren’t caught until they’re already making millions and the NCAA has no jurisdiction.
Otherwise there should just be minor league football. College football IS sort of anachronistic. But I don’t think anyone wants that.

surprising since they didn't have much use for King not that long ago, who is similar, but was not nearly as good in college.

no

And that's the difference of the 2 games
Klug has the frame for the NFL while King, regardless of “motor”, never will.

So they showed a coordinator from Missouri on the tv and he looked like a hippie or something.
They said his name was David Yost. I had to google that to double check that I got the facts right. Apparently David Yost is also a Mighty Morphin Power Ranger.
Ach, I was not clear.
I meant “double check” as in I thought I had misread the captions on the tv. For a second it looked like the commentators said that David Yost was a coordinator for Iowa. The following thoughts then proceeded to pop into my head:
- “Kirk allowed a hippie on his staff?”
- “How did Stanzi feel about that?”
- “I don’t recognize the name David Yost, he can’t be one of Iowa’s staff”
- “Let’s google this shit and find out once and for all”
- “Ooh, I’m hungry.”

1. I'm not saying the movie is laughable, I'm saying its placement as the second best is laughable
It’s above Two Towers (bullshit) and below Return of the King (cool).
2. The 17th best movie of all time? LOLOL. The next three movies backing it up are City of God, Casablanca and Once Upon a Time in the West. One of these is not like the other.
Wait WHAT
Someone placed The Two Towers BELOW Fellowship? Fucking A. To whom do I address my very angry letter.
Casablanca fucking sucks. It’s made for lonely women. Horrible acting. Horrible story.

Uh..people watching the Insight Bowl replay did you notice that in the traditions commercial they neglected to show any Iowa traditions?
And no, I’m not counting Floyd because they showed MN grabbing him.
I did notice
but is that because this game is being shortened for the time slot or did they not show during the live broadcast?
Another thing I noticed is that my heart rate is much lower and no fear of a heart attack as i watch the replay vs the live broadcast.

Just watched this for the first time.
Watched it with pops. He had his physical for the draft, but the war ended (or whatever) before he acdtually had to join. It was interesting watching it from his perspective. He lived with the younger brother of a guy (thus, he was friends with said “guy”) who had a group of friends that considered their time in Vietnam the greatest experiences of their lives. Drugs, sex, violence, partying. He also knew people who haven’t been the same sense. Dad’s not a deep dude, but hearing him tell these things and having it depicted on screen at the same time… made it interesting.
meh

lyrics for the evening
Start spreading the news,
I’m leaving today.
I want to be a part of it –
Hamsterdam, Hamsterdam.
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
And step around the heart of it
Hamsterdam, Hamsterdam.
I want to wake up in a city,
That doesn’t sleep,
To find I’m king of the hill- ah-
Top of the heap.
My little town blues
Are melting away
I’m gonna make a brand new start of it
In old Hamsterdam.
If I can make it there,
I’d make it anywhere
It’s up to you,
Hamsterdam, Hamsterdam.
Hamsterdam, Hamsterdam!
I want to wake up in a city,
That doesn’t sleep,
To find I’m king of the hill,
Head of the list,
Cream of the crop
At top of the heap.
My little town blues
Are melting away
I’m gonna make a brand new start of it
In old Hamsterdam.
If I can make it there,
I’d make it anywhere
Come on, come through,
Hamsterdam, Hamsterdam.

Death metal...
it all just depends on what you’ve actually heard and digested. I haven’t run into many people that dig heavy music that have been able to tell me that Morbid Angel’s “Altars of Madness” or Entombed’s “Left Hand Path” are unenjoyable.

"If you need a rah-rah speech at halftime, you’re playing the wrong sport." - Pat Angerer
See, that I can understand.
Death metal can get pretty bland, even though there’s a lot going on. Especially with the technical stuff. It usually sacrifices songwriting for spectacle and brutality (whatever that means anymore).

I definitely haven't heard of these guys.
This is some truly strange shit, and that’s one thing I love about metal, is how it’ll always be a forum for the strange. I can’t say I really dig the gore/avant garde black metal scene that much with the exception of some bands (eg. Agalloch, even though they’re nothing like these guys), but I always have an appreciation for the really out-there shit.

I'm pretty picky about my metal
and haven’t gotten into much new stuff, but anymore there isn’t much that is really orignal, to me at least. No one plays standard tuning anymore, and no one knows how to be heavy without tuning down to the point that guitar strings need to be bass strings. Dumb, to me, anyway.
Hey Dolph, you look like I need a beer.

I have no idea if you listened to much Mastodon...
but I always start there with people who aren’t into newer stuff. The ’Don are grounded in classic metal and hard rock, but introduce all this crazy musicality, amazing songwriting and virtuosity and absurd thematic elements into the whole thing as they combine more recent metal styles.

Was Cars 2 that bad?
I decided that theatre prices are f’ed up compared to blu-ray prices and let my son and wife go see it by themselves.
Bethany: Were they sent to Hell?

It's definitely the worst of the lot.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
My only disagreement is that Ratatouille should be higher.
But I’m not sure higher than what. There’s definitely a huge fall off after that.

I struggled with that.
It started much higher on the list, but started falling as I remembered the others. It’s a fantastic movie. I already think the list needs adjusted. The first and second Toy Story movies are better than Wall-e.

I watched an interesting defense of Cars once
That basically said the reason it seems to fail is that while other Pixar movies are focused on things nerds like (Robots, Action Figures, SuperHeroes, Seven Samurai remade with a bunch of CGI ants, etc.), that Cars was about, well, Nascar. And all the deep fried red state tradition that goes with it.
I have the same fashion sense as Tom Arnold.
I grew up in Charlotte. I love NASCAR.
Cars simply doesn’t hold up because it’s weaker than the others. Cars 2 was completely unnecessary and was done as nothing more than a cash grab. Monster’s Inc was second on my list and I’m slightly worried about the sequel, because it also feels unnecessary.
by The Mexican't on Aug 17, 2011 10:23 PM CDT up reply actions
I haven't seen a Pixar movie I didn't like.
But for some reason, my son and nephews have loved Cars for the last 3 years.
Bethany: Were they sent to Hell?
Metatron: Worse. Wisconsin. For the entire span of human history.
I'm going to assume it's because they're young.
Cars is a brainless and fun Pixar movie. The others do a fair job of telling some sort of story. It’s easy to get excited about cars, and the toys and shit are easy to market. Cars is far and away Pixar’s money maker, but it’s also their weakest franchise.

I think my biggest problem with it
is that every other Pixar movie exists within a larger universe. The Incredibles are superheroes but they live normal lives, the toys in Toy Story really are what we think but they just happen to have lives you don’t know about, same could be said about the fish and bugs of ‘Finding Nemo’ & ‘A Bug’s Life’, and so on.
‘Cars’ is asinine for the reason that, yes, they’re cars, apparently for no other reason than that kids like cars. Why do they exist? Who made them? Why do they have seats if there isn’t anyone to drive them? It’s a dumb fucking concept made to sell toys and use a bunch of easy automotive puns. I think the biggest reason I hate it so much is that I’ve come to expect timeless story telling from Pixar. Despite being on the bleeding edge of animation, their films have stories and themes that are timeless and will (and with Toy Story at 15, have) age beautifully. With Cars you have a slightly less-disposable Dreamworks animated movie.

I have nothing further to contribute.
Other than… this is the exact reason I love Wall-E. You can’t even really call it an animated movie. It’s a moving, socially-self-aware film that happens to be animated. The themes throughout and the concepts that lay at it’s foundation are some of the most thought provoking and heartwarming tenants to any film I think I’ve ever seen. And it all succeeds because of a disarming, nerdy, wonky robot with a knack for being a total klutz.

I think Wall-E's greatest achievement
is that they made a film about robots and, in doing so, managed to capture some of the most human moments I’ve ever seen on-screen.

Toy Story 3 is actually excellent.
I’m snobby about movies (though I enjoy terrible movies too if they don’t take themselves too seriously).
The ending is amazing, the way you know they’ll get out of it, then start to wonder how they’ll get out of it, then it goes on so long you’re thinking “They WILL get out of it, right?” (Trying not to spoil anything, but the resolution is very zen.)
Sorry if I took a simple quip that was meant as a rebuke for a single-minded poster and turned it into a completely uninteresting and inconsequential tangent.
