Will this sate Hamsterdam's hunger?
Probably, but it will also send Hamsterdam to the bathroom for the rest of the night. As always, your debrief on Hamsterdam is here.

HO! LEE! SHIT.
I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise.
Honestly, that shit it crazy, but I’m starting to wonder if there was a recent leadership change at NCAA headquarters or what? This is a rather sudden flexing of muscles, is it not? I’m slightly impressed, but that’s only two out of how many schools that most would agree are cheating. I’ll sit up and take note when they put some of the others on notice. Until then I’ll be kicked back and munching some popped corn while we watch Da U implode (again?). They really aren’t good at this cheating stuff.

From the yahoo article
some of it with the knowledge or direct participation of at least seven coaches from the Miami football and basketball programs.
In an effort to substantiate the booster’s claims, Yahoo! Sports audited approximately 20,000 pages of financial and business records from his bankruptcy case, more than 5,000 pages of cell phone records, multiple interview summaries tied to his federal Ponzi case, and more than 1,000 photos. Nearly 100 interviews were also conducted with individuals living in six different states. In the process, documents, photos and 21 human sources – including nine former Miami players or recruits, and one former coach – corroborated multiple parts of Shapiro’s rule-breaking
They just handed the NCAA Miami’s head.

No death penalty
that is only for schools already on probation who repeat violate.
And the NCAA is currently balling their eyes out that they have been confronted with a case of malfeasance so big even they can’t ignore it. I mean they just got done rapping fOSU’s knuckles, it was time to go on vacation but NOOOOO.

Do you think they really care?
Seriously. Do you think the NCAA gives a flying rat’s ass about what the “fans” think. We are merely wallets to them and as long as we keep paying, they will keep pretending they are an organization for amateur athletics.
They’ll do an investigation and they’ll give Miami some punishment. Maybe a couple years post season ban, a few scholarships but IT DOESN’T MATTER. The people who committed the violations are long gone for the most part. You want the schools to take this shit seriously? Fine them. Big. Millions of dollars, Many millions. And they don’t play until they pay up.
But it’ll never happen. And we’ll keep watching and acting all outraged the next time something like this happens.
"If you need a rah-rah speech at halftime, you’re playing the wrong sport." - Pat Angerer
I don't think they care about the fans at all, no.
I can see pressure from other large schools, though. There is already talk and plans of schools/conferences leaving the NCAA. It is a PR nightmare for the NCAA if they continue to do nothing and I’m not just talking about in the eyes of fans.
by Carfino'sWay on Aug 16, 2011 8:56 PM CDT up reply actions
2 issues.
1) The list of coaches and University employees who knew about what was going on and didn’t do anything is pretty galling..
2) This occurred while Miami was on probation for a major violation for impermissible recruiting.
The NCAA doesn’t want to swing the dethhammer, but they may have to think about it here.
Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.

Did not know they were on probation
that could certainly change things.
I still don’t know that they pack the gear to do it though. They think it ruined SMU football for 20 years. It didn’t. SMU made some of their own choices that made it last 20 years.
"If you need a rah-rah speech at halftime, you’re playing the wrong sport." - Pat Angerer

The story centers around a kid in Brazil that lives in a dangerous Rio slum called the "City of God"
The kid wants out and ultimately finds that photography may be his escape, but has to deal with drugs and gangs and other general slum-type stuff.
The back cover says it’s based on a true story. It’s a tremendous movie, but is subtitled, so some effort is required. Definitely a must-see, though.

Captain selection is much more important than I'd expected.
Keeper seems like the best option most of the time, unless there’s a surefire goal scorer on the squad.

I've tended to favor consistent point-scorers from midfield or forward.
Goalies are typically hugely dependent on keeping a clean sheet, which can be tough to guarantee.
The upside is also greater with attacking players. With keepers, your points are probably topping out at 12-14 after the captain’s bonus is factored in. Attacking players can get 10-12 (or more) before the captain’s bonus is factored in. That game last year where Berbatov scored four goals? He got a staggering amount of points.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
That would be nice.
Finding a goal scoring fullback is tremendously difficult. Midfielders are probably a solid option, which is why I went with Toure. Kuyt would work, as well, but he’s got to get into the starting eleven again.

Yeah.
The last few years, forwards have been pretty reliable — Drogba, Tevez, Rooney, etc. There are going to be a few games where they score 2-3 points (pre-bonus), but they manage to score (or assist) pretty frequently.

Damn you.
You are fucking loaded with Liverpool, Man City, and Fulham players.
Also: I didn’t realize Everton’s keeper kit was FUCKING CAMO. Got-damn.
BTW, the game is giving everyone a free transfer wildcard (i.e., you can make unlimited transfers) this week because the site was all fucked up at the end of last week. Hopefully they also have live scoring actually working.

I had to make two transfers, but I did it yesterday and it cost me 4 points.

I'm ashamed of everyone here.
How is this not one of the first ten posts?

Do the Yankees have a lot of players that are old?
Or does it just seem that way because the Royals players are always so young?
I believe they prefer the term "seasoned veteran," rather than "old."

I think you just insulted me.

The average age for baseball players in the majors is 27, for the Yankees it is almost 30.6.
They are old, but not as old as me. Bastards.

YOU'RE OLDER THAN 30?
You’re old as shit. What was the world like before the wheel was invented?
by The Mexican't on Aug 16, 2011 10:37 PM CDT up reply actions
I have repeatedly admitted I'm over 30.
I don’t look like it so I don’t see it as a problem. I easily pass for mid-20s.
It was a lot harder to get around before the wheel but we were more fit. It took longer to get places but there was less sitting on our asses.

I don't pay enough attention.
I just wanted to remind you that you’re old.

UFC on FOX?

Hmmm.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
Hmmm indeed.
Should be a huge show to kick it off then a show every 3 or 4 months about the level of UFC 132 or Sunday’s Fight Night on VS. Not sure how it will change anything, other than aligning with networks (Fox and FX) significantly larger than Spike and VS.
Let’s just hope we don’t have to see Cleatus the robot kickboxing across the screen during fights.

Isn't Versus owned by NBC, though?
So that’s still a pretty solid network tie-in.
by The Mexican't on Aug 16, 2011 10:58 PM CDT up reply actions
The Versus deal (and the Spike deal) are both up at the end of 2011.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
Yeah, if they put 3-4 shows a year on FOX proper, those should be pretty big shows, which would be fun.
The FX shows will probably be identical to the stuff on Spike or Versus Fight Nights now.
I just hope they don’t try to inflict their own announcers on UFC.

I'd be surprised if Dana gave up any control over production or matchmaking
It’s why he turned down deals with HBO and CBS in the past. They wanted to control production and matchmaking (which worked out so well for Strikeforce and EliteXC).

Yeah, I agree that Dana must have gotten a pretty favorable deal or he wouldn't have made the jump.

Speaking of FX
I saw they’re showing some football this fall. I’m sure they will be some real high profile matchups. Regardless, I’ll watch it because I LOVE FOOTBALL.
They've got Big 12 and Pac 12 match-ups. (And, um, some C-USA, I think.)
They’ll be the second-tier games after the ones ABC/ESPN grabs.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
Ah, so it won't be bottom of the barrel
Well that’s good to know. But as I said i’d even watch it if it was bottom of the barrel.
Well, there will be a few ISU games...
