Hamsterdam Is Saved By The Bell
You'll want to spend some time with this, trust me.
Tonight's Hamsterdam springs forth from BHGP's loins like a mighty stallion. (Background info on H'dam here.)
There's a football-like substance on TV in the form of the San Diego-Seattle preseason game on ESPN (as well as a host of other preseason games are probably available in certain local markets), but we'll be watching the same thing we do every Thursday: the epic comedy triple-header of Futurama, Louie, and Wilfred.

Would have been another Jake Kerr.
I’m only bringing that up to post an anecdote I heard at The Mat today:
So Jake Kerr is wrestling Colt Sponseller. And Sponseller is physically destroying him. Kerr can barely work up the energy to get to the middle of the mat, where he is inevitably taken down again. Some brutus fan yells out, “Hey, Brands, your guy doesn’t want to wrestle anymore!” Brands, with his amazing BRANDS POWERS, turns around, finds the guy immediately, locks on with his vision, and yells back, “You think I can’t see that?!”
Yes! Brands!

“holier than thou” or the like, rather than hypocrisy.
And since the sins of the father shouldn’t be visited on the son, I think the same is true in reverse. Especially since he has three other kids, none of whom ended up all fucked up. Sometimes the blame resides on the person doing it.

No, the guy said they aren't getting any more in and I'm not a size 10.

As far as how the UGGS will hold up, you’re probably right. I was snow boot shopping in March & the guy at the ski shop pretty much said I’d be a fool to spend that kind of scratch on UGGS if I was planning to wear them in actual snow.

Mine has a good amount of curl to it.
My mom kept my hair short as a kid so I didn’t learn how to style it very well. I learned one trick w/ bobby pins a couple years ago and it changed my world. My hair is really thick and has to be flat ironed, which I can’t do. Blowing it straight doesn’t work. It is only straight when I get my hair did and it totally confuses people. They don’t recognize me. I was told my curly hair is part of my personality and that is probably true.

I absolutely agree
If your hair’s that curly, that’s how it was meant to be worn.
My sister’s hair is curlier than mine AND she has chosen to live in the humidity of the Godforsaken South so she’s very good at getting hers to behave as curly. I myself have a lovely collection of hats for the days I just don’t feel like dealing.

As an example, I cite former PSU walk-on Josh Hull.
Without the mustache in 2008, he was terrible. He lacked everything a linebacker needs to be, you know, good. In 2009, his senior year, he had a mustache. He had a great year and was actually drafted. Now, you could credit Penn State’s fantastic linebacker coach Ron Vanderlinden for this transformation. Or you could credit some hair. I choose to credit the hair.
I am only glad we never had to see the agony of Lincoln McIlravy as Lincoln McIlmulletless.

Patrick Reusse bet Phil Mackey and their radio show producer a dinner
over the fact that T-Jack would be a Pro Bowler with the Seahawks. Reusse had T-Jack, they had the field.
His reasoning was that T-Jack is a Top 6 QB in the NFC and will get in because at least 3 will skip the pro bowl after being elected.

I think Alex Smith makes the Pro-Bowl before Tarvaris. And I’m a Niner fan that hates Alex Smith.
Also, here are NFC guys I actually think would be selected ahead of TJ:

It has defensive players. It costs $50 (and I’ve never paid more than $10 before). It is a keeper league. It is 8 teams.
I’m kind of pissed that I relented and joined. And if it sucks and I quit at the end of the year, I’m sure my friend will be pissed. Oh well, its your fruity league, dude.

12 is about the perfect set-up
Not too many teams so that there’s no talent available, but not too few teams that everyone can simply stand-pat with their roster and refuse to trade/deal/work the waiver wires.
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.
Yep, that would be a big problem for us
Although I’m not entirely sure more teams would male a difference for us with trades. The guys are all so paranoid that their buddy is getting the better end of the deal that they won’t trade with each other.
SO, I don’t worry about trades but I DO pick up a lot of guys thru the season.

Do you hear that?
Those are my eyes rolling.
Silas Redd’s two best games were against Minnesota and jNW. Otherwise he had some “meh” inducing performances.
James White and Montee Ball combined to put up 10 100+ yard games last year and only averaged under 6 ypc against O$U and Iowa for White and MSU and Iowa for Ball.
Cheering for inconsistent, undisciplined teams [Twins, Wild, Packers, Hawkeyes] since 1989. "False Hope is better than No Hope"
Those two omg superstar backs had their best conference performances behind the best offensive line in the country against Michigan, Purdue, Indiana, and Northwestern. That sound you hear is the sound of me running for 50 yards behind Wisconsin’s line against those teams.
Silas Redd was running behind a mediocre line, one that he frequently helped to make look pretty good. Moreover, he has the best combination of speed and agility I’ve seen from a PSU back since Curt Warner or Blair Thomas (Damn you, Rich Kotite). I have never seen a Penn State tailback with as much visible potential as Silas Redd. No, he didn’t rack up stats against particularly good teams, but he always – God help me – showed flashes of greatness, even against Ohio State. With enough coaching, enough time in the weigh room, and with the work ethic he seems to have, he can undoubtedly go down as one of the best tailbacks in the long line of great Penn State tailbacks.
The same is not true for Ball or White. Both of whom are good, but not as good as John Clay, and not as naturally talented as Silas Redd.

Did Wisconsin announce they're only going to put 3 men on the O-Line this season?
Even with the graduation losses, they’re still going to have a stellar O-Line, something these guys can’t say:

Rambler has posted the stats here before.
What’s seeing them again going to do?
And I’m not going to say that those stats tell the whole story. They don’t. Russel Wilson was much more heavily relied upon (read: much more easily keyed on by opposing defenses). He also has much more experience than McGloin too. They played in different leagues, different systems, and different weather conditions. A grain of salt and a bit of “yeah well apples and oranges” is to be considered when looking at the numbers.
I’m not out to say that Matt McGloin was generally great or that Russell Wilson was generally bad. I don’t believe either. Both were great and both were facepalm at times, and anyone who denies this doesn’t know things about football.
What the numbers do make clear to me is that the simultaneous existence of the “Wilson will definitely succeed and Wisconsin has nothing to worry about with him at QB” sentiment and the “Penn State will go 7-5 or worse because their QB Death situation and all” sentiment are the product of MSM and Blogistan hype far more than the product of anything we actually have to go off of statistically or have actually seen on the field.
You’re free to disagree, and I don’t think you’re a stupid person if you do, but I will say this: I’m more scared of Nathan Scheelhaase and the Dawson than I am of Russell Wilson, and I don’t know why the rest of the B1G isn’t thinking the same thing about Matt McGloin / Robert Bolden.
"I play for Penn State, we don't celebrate after TDs." - Penn State's Derek Moye, on being asked to act like he's celebrating a TD during a BTN shoot.

TAILGATE 4 TEH KIDZ
I’m selling parking spots in my yard for Iowa football tailgating. It’s really close to Kinnick and easy to get out of the city after games.
I’m going to give all the money I make doing it to Touchdowns for Kids. If you know anybody who hasn’t locked up their tailgating spot, please get ahold of me. I would even sell the yard for the season to a group who wanted access to a sweet deck and use of my restroom.
If you know anybody interested in this, my email is in my profile. Anyone think this is worthy of a FanPost? It could conceivably generate a lot of money for a great cause.
I’m doing this because I suck at selling my yard piecemeal — standing outside all day with a sign sucks. Also for the kidz.

Sooooo, SEC expansion
I thought I saw VT and FSU were potential teams. If they join aTm, that makes 15. Does that mean that Mike Slive is just waiting for Pollard to accept the SEC’s offer?
Do you think FSU and VT would leave the ACC? VT has been pretty dominant, and FSU probably could be again if they get their shit together.
I don’t foresee either program to consistently be better than Florida, LSU, Bama, and maybe some other SEC programs (if they get they get their shit together, like Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, and maybe even South Carolina).
We will become more intensity!!! --What Reading Rambler thinks Tom Brands should do.
by WaterlooChazz on Aug 12, 2011 10:14 AM CDT up reply actions
With the TV contract that the SEC has?
As well as immediately getting credit for playing in the best football conference in the country and not having to deal with ACC basketball? Yes, both VT and FSU make that jump. They probably don’t even hesitate.
by The Mexican't on Aug 12, 2011 10:17 AM CDT up reply actions
Won't there be at some point a diminishing return on investment?
I mean if the SEC teams gets say $20 Million a year for each school, and i am just using this number as an example, and they add another 4 teams to the conference, even with a larger TV deal they would have to split that up 16 ways which could actually cause a diminishing return for each team on the conference.
Isn’t that a possibility? if so, why would the SEC, or for that manner any conference, want to add a team that is not going to bring in the money?
Does VT and FSU bring in that much money from a TV viewier perspective that it makes sense for the SEC to add them?

I've no idea.
But expansion to 13 is pointless. 16 seemed to be the magic number last time, and I don’t think that will change. As Patrick has pointed out about 47 times, despite the BHGP commentariats hatred of VA Tech, they’re a legitimate commodity in the race for a super conference and FSU just makes sense with the SEC.
I’ve no idea who would be 16. Miami seems like overkill in Florida, maybe another Big12 team? Or a regional rival for VT?
by The Mexican't on Aug 12, 2011 11:00 AM CDT up reply actions
My absolute hatred of VT is well-known
But even I have to agree with what Mexican’t says. Tech brings ALL of Virginia and its media markets with it. As well as significant exposure in the DC/Beltway area and would be a huge get for the SEC. The irony of all this is that when the ACC expanded with Miami, Mark Warner and the VA Legislature forced UVA to insist that Tech got brought along, despite UVA having no interest in doing so. Now Tech could be screwing UVA over once again.
The team that doesn’t make sense in this is FSU. I’m not sure they bring in any additional tv markets (or at least enough to offset their taking a cut of the pie) and a number of schools in the SEC would be against FSU because they already recruit the state of Florida heavily and wouldn’t want to give FSU a boost (Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Auburn).
