He played
before 1979. The fact he’s mentioned at all is a miracle.

Andy Katzenmoyer higher than Kinnick?
There are no words. I stopped looking after Katzenmoyer. It doesn’t matter.
Shouldn’t Heisman Trophy winners get an automatic pass to the top of the list?
inflated stats
apparently overinflated stats are all that are necessary to be higher than Kinnick. I mean sure stats aren’t meaningless, but they also need to be looked at objectively. Obviously whoever assembled that list didn’t do that.
impossible is nothing
This list is invalid. That is all.

WOW
i thought “48, well, thats not terrible, there have been alot of players that have been great and gone on to be great in the NFL”, then i saw “college only” and broke my computer in anger.
He should be top 20 without a question in my mind.

Top 10, without a shadow of a doubt.
It’s supposed to be a list of players that never did much in the NFL. That excludes about 90% of the guys that were arguably more legendary than Kinnick.
Chuck Long at #39. Really, ESPN? Long over Kinnick? We don’t play in Long Stadium. Chuck Long’s visage is not the one on the coin that is flipped before every Big Ten game. Long didn’t win every major award in the nation, including the Heisman trophy and the male athlete of the year (over Joe DiMaggio). Long didn’t score 82% of his team’s points in a one-loss season that saw upset victories against Notre Dame and Minnesota. Chuck Long didn’t lead the NCAA in punt return yardage. Chuck Long doesn’t hold the following records at Iowa: Season interceptions, career interceptions, most punt return yardage in a game, most punt returns in a game, most punting yards in a game. And Chuck Long didn’t die in a tragic accident while serving his country in wartime.
I love Chuck Long, but Kinnick should be ranked above him by any measure. FAR above him. They must have drawn names out of a hat or threw darts at a dartboard for this list. There’s no way, by any rational criteria, that this would pass muster in the eyes of even a moderately-informed college football fan.

Long at 39 is too low as well
but its not the axe job they gave to Kinnick. the list is pathetic and ESPN should be ashamed. they didnt even put the right picture in for one of the guys on their list

There are four Big Ten players that should be mandatory top 10s
Nile Kinnick, Archie Griffen, Bronko Nagurski, and Red Grange. Those four stand above the rest (unless I’m forgetting someone, a very likely possibility), and at least one of them should be top 5. Buuuuut this is on ESPN so we’ll be lucky if we see anyone outside the SEC after it reaches the top 25.

the fact that they label him only a quarterback is also a joke.
especially when they list 2 positions for Gordie Lockbaum.
Leads me to believe they did barely any reasearch on Kinnick
Some guy said “what about this one Kinnick guy?” and they said “ah hell, throw him a late number or something”.

It appears to be possibly compiled by (or under the supervision of) Mark Schlabach.
Therefore, plan on this list being very skewed toward the SEC, the traditionally powerful programs, and perhaps the south.
I knew the list was a joke when I started seeing guys like Troy Edwards or Jason White ahead of Nile.
We will become more intensity!!! --What Reading Rambler thinks Tom Brands should do.
I thought about leaving a comment
Then I saw all those morons giving all those SEC players blowies and figured I’m better than that.
