So, earlier this week, a few of us were commenting on some post here on BHGP. We were talking about the show "Justified" which is on FX. And some jerk* with a name that references a past Iowa linebacker (not AcrimoniousAngerer) started whining about how we shouldn't talk about TV shows until he/she got a chance to enter the 21st freaking century, probably in the summer of 2011.
To be fair, I ripped off the idea for this post from commentor White Lightning.
I figured I'd tell you what I watch, throw out a few things that stood out or some interesting things coming up, and then let the free-for-all begin. And let's be clear, this thread is no-holds-barred, so don't start reading it and then complain that you read something you were trying to save for later. But, do feel free to give your opinions or reviews, because that information might be helpful for somebody deciding which movie to spend $10 on, or which shows to DVR, or which stuff to add to their Netflix queue.
I suppose we should also use Ross's Rules of Order (no porn, no slurs, no illegal streams, no crossing the streams, and maybe avoid politics and religion).
*To be fair, YouCanPutYourEddsInIt is probably a decent person. Or maybe he/she makes Gadaffi look like Mr. Rogers. I don't know.
What did I watch this week?
(First run) PTI, Jim Rome is Burning, Archer, Justified, Workaholics, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report.
(Repeats/Syndicated) Ken Burns's The Civil War, The Office, Seinfeld, The Wire.
What did I like this week?
Justified was pretty good. I only got into this in the last month or so, so I definitely have a bunch of background I need to get informed about. I don't trust that Boyd Crowder (played by Walton Goggins, he was on The Shield). I don't really trust this Carol Johnson (played by Rebecca Creskoff) from the Blackpike Company, but she turns me on, so she gets a pass.
If you didn't see the new show Workaholics, I must recommend that you do so. First run episodes are on Comedy Central at 9:30 PM CT. Re-airs are on at other times during the week (late Sunday night or early Monday morning especially). This past week was the first episode, I believe, and had a lot of sex/nudity and drug references. The NY Daily News review stomped it a new butthole and walked it dry. But, that just proves what I have always suspected: that the NY Daily News is run by retards. The show made me laugh. A lot. And how can you not laugh when you see this guy:
What Am I Ashamed to Admit that I Watched This Week?
I stopped over at my parents' house on Tuesday evening, and while waiting for my dad to get home from some evening appointments (tax season), I was half-napping on their couch. My mom was sitting in a nearby recliner, and watching Dancing With the Stars. Therefore, I witnessed that Wendy lady get her no-talent ass get sent back to New York. If Lil' Romeo doesn't win this contest, then it was rigged...I mean, um, I don't watch Dancing With The Stars. Yeah, that's the ticket.
New TV Shows Coming Up.
Sports Show with Norm MacDonald premiers this week, on Comedy Central on Tuesday at 9:30 PM CT. Maybe it will be funny, maybe it will get canceled. Either way, Norm MacDonald is going to be funny and he's going to yell at somebody.
Also this week, I think The Office will be back to first run episodes. And I think Will Ferrell will make his first appearance. Thursday, NBC, 8 PM CT. By the way, TVGuide is running with rumors that Ferrell might join The Office permanently. Also, watch out for Office appearances by Will Arnett, James Spader, and Ray Romano before the season ends.
TV Show Seasons I Should Probably Rent.
I think there are some episodes from Mad Men season 1 that I never saw. Also, I feel like I need to rent Eastbound and Down. And Justified from before a month ago. And there are a ton of others, but I'll save a few for some possible future TV-related post.
Movies in the Theaters.
I gotta say, there aren't that many movies out right now that have me saying "I must go see that." And I even have some free movie certificates to use up. I might go see The Lincoln Lawyer with my cousin tomorrow. If anybody has seen something they liked lately, hollaback in the comments below.
Movie That Looks Like it Will Really Suck.
"Prom." It is a Disney production geared toward over-sentimental teens. 'Nuff said.
What Am I Watching Right This Very Second?
The Buddy Holly Story (1978). On Fuse channel at 11 pm on Friday night. This had Gary Busey before he started bashing his head against cement to get drugs. But, as a native Iowan, I feel a bit ashamed that I've never seen this movie before, because of THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED.
Despite the fact that I hate Katy Perry, I was intrigued by the Adidas ad I saw on TV this week that featured her, rapper BOB, and a a few athletes ranging from Lionel Messi to Derrick Rose. I don't know how new this ad is (I had not seen it before this week) but I thought the music was catchy.
Have a good weekend and week, everybody.
