It's not too often we play a fanbase in basketball that is even more distracted than us, but Boise State football (perhaps you've heard of them) is playing Arizona State in the Las Vegas Bowl tonight, so my guess is they are a bit preoccupied. Bully for us!

I honestly thought it wasn't a spurning when he left, just that he wanted to make a name for himself and network a bit while he's young (it happens all the time)
but with the comments he’s making (even if he is just sucking up to the new fanbase) he can officially fuck the hell off.
I don’t hate the guy yet, but if he bashes his former team again it’s no longer courting the fanbase. That would put him in the realm of “talking shit” and that don’t fly.
I’m chalking these words (and the move to Nebby) up to bad judgement, but I’m not far away from saying “fuck this guy” and deciding (even if it’s irrational) that he was the reason our DL underwhelmed the last couple years.
Either way, I hope our OL shitpounds Nebby’s defense repeatedly over the next few years (and looking at our young guys, if they pan out, we just might do it).

He's been playing like it.
I think he poses an odd defensive proposition for any opponent, so he’s able to do things you wouldn’t expect him to. I guess it depends on if he can keep doing it in Big Ten play and next year.
We’ve got a nice little core for an excellent team (if we can keep em and Fran keeps up this kind of recruiting) in the freshmen and sophomores

More than anything May is just losing playing time to other guys. Marble is killing it right now. Oglesby and Gatens have established themselves as our options for shooting threes. May’s fast becoming a roleplayer on the team, but I’m with BentNotBroke; there’s no need to stomp on him.
Besides he’s good for a monster dunk every other game or so. Which I like.

Hmmm... I don't follow Iowa preps basketball, so I didn't have any pre-conceived notions.
He’s athletic in a weird way (to me, anyway), and he was hot to start last year on a small sample size, but I just haven’t seen much that makes me think “stud basketball player.”

sure, incredible athlete, great football player too. just not the kind of guy who was ready to produce as a starter in a system like ours. would’ve been a great role player in the uni teams of late. head case, could’ve used a redshirt to develop in so many ways before contributing for us. he’ll be our only senior next year right? I feel the same way about McCabe.
I know Brommer has his limitations, but whenever he and Cartwright are healthy, I’d rather those two get the minutes from May and McCabe and not from Gatens, Marble, Basabe, White or Oglesby or even Olaseni.
I’d like to see a rotation of:
Cartwright – Oglesby
Marble – Oglesby – May
Gatens – May – McCabe
Basabe – White – McCabe
Brommer – Olaseni – Archie
If Olaseni could overtake Brommer at C, that’d be a huge plus. Two ball-handlers on the floor. Sub one out for Oglesby, keep the other in. May and McCabe can do similar things on offense to Gatens (although not exactly the same). Can go small or big.
I just remember looking through some Ken Pom stats about halfway through the season and seeing that Marble had one of the lowest TO% in the country. That went up as he got more minutes handling the ball, but it still wasn’t bad. It takes away shooting, but maybe it gives Gatens et al. a better chance to get open for catch-and-shoots if they don’t have to worry about handling the ball.

Give McCabe a chance until next year (not the minutes necessarily, just a chance).
He plays with fire, and it’s gotten him into some trouble at times (lately with the fouls), but I think the kid could be one hell of a leader, or at least a helluva sparkplug for the team.

Why on earth would you want Brommer in instead of McCabe?
McCabe can shoot from outside, can hit FTs, and gives you better stats in terms of scoring and rebounding. And, is probably a better passer.

RDM 18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists (1 turnover), 3 steals, 3 blocks
White 18 points, 6 rebounds
Basabe 14 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks
Gatens 16 points, 3 assists (no turnovers)
…and Oglesby was good for 9 points.

Fran just had some HUGE things to say about Aaron White. He talked about how some people see the game a play or two ahead and said White is that kind of guy. That there are points during games when Aaron will tell Fran something that he sees, and it’s the kind of stuff that you’d expect out of a senior ballplayer.
Really talked him up for a while without adding any negatives that I heard.
Also talked about Mel’s improvement.

Sometimes
His hook shot was horrific early this season. At least I think that was a hook shot. Anyway, for awhile there it looked like that first game went to his head and after that he thought he’d have his way with people.
Recently he’s looked a lot better. He could be really really good down the line.

On the other hand,
it is good for guys like him, and Oglesby, to have confidence. Kind of like Basabe did last year. If Fran is going to get this thing turned around, it will be because new guys come in and change things by playing well and not being intimidated by the Big Ten, or the surrounding veteran players.

I hope conference realignment gives the Broncos a shot at 7-5 like Utah. Granted Utah this year isn’t as good as some Utah teams in the past. I just can’t get past the thought that Boise would be on the upper side of mediocre in a bigger conference.
Unfortunately, playing in the Big Least against whatever teams will be in that sinking ship of a conference will probably not prove my opinion of them. So they can continue worshipping at the altar they’ve built for themselves.

I would think that playing in the Big East
is only going to increase their amount of close games per year, and increase their chances of losing a game or two in conference.
If their fans weren’t yet tired of losing important games on a last-second kick, they better get ready for more.
