Morehouse/Dochterman Podcast
Wow. Just listened to the Morehouse/Dochterman podcast. As depressing as this season was, it really isn't going to get any better next year. I also think the two of them have been somewhat cowed into submission by Ferentz, which isn't good as they were two of the few reporters willing to ask Ferentz the tough questions.

Can you give examples as to why you think they seem cowed?
I think they and Hlas (and Rob Howe) are waaaaaaay ahead of the rest of the Iowa FB press corps when it comes to asking tough questions. Doc less so than the others, but only because football isn’t his beat. But yeah, I’d say they’re the only ones who really do ask the tough ones. Which of course go unanswered/snorted at/sarcasm’d, etc, but still.
It’s gotta be a tough position to be in, though. As a journalist you have to ask the tough questions, but you also don’t want to bite the hands that feed you, you know? The obligations of the job – asking the tough questions and having & maintaining access to the coaches & players in order to get information – can often work in opposition to each other.

Oh, I agree with your assessment of their willingness
to ask the tough questions. But in the podcast, especially during the Twitter questions segment, the “that’s just the way Ferentz is” type answer came up a lot, as in, “there’s no point in even asking/challenging Ferentz or entertaining the notion that suggestion/change X will ever be put in place.”
And I may not have been clear on this, I meant that their tone seems to indicate that even they have become cowed, not that they were of the lapdog press that constitutes so much of the Iowa press corps
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.
Right on, I see what you mean.
I take those reactions more as ones of resignation than of being cowed. Like Marc has alluded to in the past, he could just about write the weekly presser story for any given week without even having attended, b/c KF says the same thing every time, answers (or more accurately, doesn’t answer) questions the same way, etc, etc.
