It's Not Plagiarism If You Link To It: Iowa at Purdue Game Day Primer
Purdue Upset By Iowa. 67-65 (via ESPNInternational)
Alright, wrong sport but still a victory over OMHR. If only Jarryd Cole could play tight end today. Perhaps, if anything, to bring some of that fire he played with in this win against Purdue.
About today's football game. Before the links there is this little bit of news via Marc Morehouse's Twitter feed:
Canzeri didn't make the trip. Coker is banged up. I think those calling for McCall will be pleased.
Now, the best place to start is with Marc Morehouse's "The Big Analysis." Marc predicts a 31-27 Hawkeye win even though he gives Purdue the advantage at special teams and on offense. Despite the advantages Morehouse believes Iowa may lean on McNutt as they have the last five weeks.
Rob Howe's Iowa at Purdue preview is full of interesting oddsmaker trends. A couple of note, Iowa is 0-6 against the spread (ATS) in their last six road games. As a road favorite, Iowa is 0-5 ATS in their last five.
Iowa has rebounded to win the week following each of their four losses this season. A win at Purdue would be the first win on the road this year and stop a potential tailspin that we fans remember of the 2010 team. The seniors are saying the right things. Shaun Prater tells Steve Batterson, "there won't be a letdown this year," also from Marvin McNutt, "we're going to go as hard as we can and see where that takes us." The Hawkeyes haven't failed to win a game on the road in a season since 1999. These seniors have two games to put their money where their mouth is.
The Hawkeyes hauled in two football recruits this week. Tom Kakert, of Rivals.com, has a breakdown for the Cedar Rapids Gazette of Iowa's verbal two commits and what's on the horizon for football recruiting. Kakert's article mentions running back David Smith, of Midlothian, Illinois, as a candidate for filling a running back slot. Thursday Hawk Central reported that Iowa is no longer recruiting Smith. Iowa verbal Maurice Flemming and Smith are best of buds and Fleming told Hawkeye Insider's Rob Howe that even though Smith and Iowa parted ways he is still committed to Iowa.
Sticking with football recruiting, FightforIowa has this week's roundup. The high school season is winding down but FFI has the stats for those verbal commits that are still fighting for state championships.
Men's hoops cruised to another easy victory against Northern Illinois. In three blowouts the Hawkeyes have had three different leading scorers. This time it was freshman Josh Oglesby's 16 points that led the way. In his post game press conference, coach Fran McCaffery talked about Oglesby and why he has the green light.
The 3-0 Hawkeyes face their first real test Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines when they take on the Creighton Blue Jays. Iowa's starting lineup for Creighton is the same as the three previous games. No word yet on Andrew Brommer's status and the Hawkeyes will need help in the middle. Creighton's Doug McDermott is coming off a career high 27 points.
Looking even further ahead, Iowa's opponent November 23rd, Campbell, is off to a 3-0 start. Campbell defeated North Carolina A&T 94-66 and will take on Chicago State Monday before stopping in Iowa City.

Yep.
So much for leaning on McNutt & the passing game.

If McCall gets hurt, Ferentz will have some explaining to do
i still dont get why you want to put the freshman with a recent bad injury in and burn his redshirt when you have 2 or 3 ok, not great or even good but ok, backups

Canzeri's not there
Bullock has been back practicing as a WR. That leaves DeAndre Johnson.
seriously?
"Bullock has been back practicing as a WR."
That is fucking stupid.

I'm pretty sure Bullock was Denard
for the scout team Michigan week
tells you where he is with the 1’s and 2s
seriously?
to be fair, we probably said the same thing about McNutt
“we are turning our backup QB into a WR? thats fucking stupid”

But at the time, we actually needed WRs, not QBs.
In this case, we have a glut of WRs and need of RBs.

another thing about Bullock
and this was message board rumor
early in the year he was having trouble getting to practice on time. I think it was rivals, cited it as the reason he disappeared from playing time.
seriously?
wasnt he almost going to army?
if he thinks Ferentz is pissed……….

Ugh.
I’m soooooooo at the “eh, whatever” stage that I just…. whatever.
"Pursue happiness... with diligence."
by Bucketochicken on Nov 19, 2011 9:42 AM CST up reply actions
Why?
That’s where they see his future long-term, and they didn’t really need him at RB. He didn’t look any better there than either Canzeri or Johnson, and they had McCall back too
It's just the back & forth stuff that irks me, I guess.
Especially since as you said (and you’re right), he didn’t look all that great in the backfield. But the switching back & forth within a season isn’t going to help him get any better at either position.
Really though, I’m just bitter and cynical and disgusted with this season (and last season) and the direction the program seems to be heading, etc, etc, BirdCult, etc, etc.
I need a bloody mary.

by Bucketochicken on Nov 19, 2011 10:39 AM CST up reply actions
He's still just a freshman, it's not the end of the world
He has a lot of time left to settle in at receiver. When McCall went down it looked like they might need every available body at RB, especially since they clearly were not all that high on Johnson at the start of the season (or now, really). Once he proved that he didn’t have a long term future there and McCall got healthy, they moved him back (and he’s been back there for a few weeks now, it’s not like a recent thing). I don’t think a few weeks at RB is going to destroy his development.
Oh yeah, yeah, I'm just pissy and annoyed,
and already anticipating (read: dreading) the post-game & Tuesday pressers full of lame coach-speak & passive-aggressive answers and passive speech blame-deflection and blah blah blah.
God I’m glad basketball has started.

DeAndre Johnson is ok
even showed flashes of good this year. i thought McCall was great but i dont want to risk a permanent injury because we are worried our OK backup will only be ok
and not bringing Canzeri is fucking stupid

I don't think this is new, but
K Trent Mossbrucker is Iowa’s #4 QB.
I suppose somebody has to be.
In theory, at least. If you’re planning for the apocalypse.

other personnel stuff from Hawk media
Bullock working at WR
Blythe working as 2nd string G
CJF and Keenan working with the 1’s
Hillyard, Cooper and McMinn made the trip
Tobin at LG
Bigach at DE
Canzeri confirmed at home
seriously?
So do we pull redshirts on any of those FRs?
I want to win, but damn, now seems like a bad time to get them their first action.
Burt Reynolds is my spirit guide.
Agreed.
There’s not enough left to this season to pull a redshirt. Doing so would be a red flag of desperation from KF.
If they're far enough along that they are a better option
It beats Detroit in December.

Really?
Is the Motor City Bowl significantly worse than the TicketCity Bowl?
They’re both good experience, but nobody’s going to be excited about either of them.

I'm in Dallas
I’d much rather they play here or Houston than Detroit
One of them is in Detroit in Decemeber so yes
