Yes

I think it may be a cop out. But I respect other people’s desires to remain closeted. But I’m also of the opinion that it’s okay to sleep with “straight” men cheating on their female significant others, but not to sleep with gay men cheating on male significant others.

However, I would NOT in any way be monogamous or get into a LTR with somebody on the DL.

was that BHNP?

I spent half my life's earnings on wine, women & song. The other half I wasted.

by therealCatnuts on Nov 18, 2011 11:28 PM CST up reply actions

The specifics:

I’m polyamorous and open (I have a partner and then another, er, friend). My friend is going to hook up with someone famous (I am pretty sure I know who but not for certain) and they’ve done it a few times.

I don’t think anybody can tell another person to come out. Personally, I think sexuality and sexual orientation are irrelevant. However, I do feel that coming out is less about assuming an identify and more about making a proclamation of independence, such that worry about being caught or “outed” ceases to be. For me, gay rights aren’t as much about the specifics of being able to get married or to donate blood as it about the overarching idea that who I sleep with shouldn’t matter.

The problem that I have with supplying a sexual outlet for celebrities on the DL is that they are in a unique position to help broadcast that word. They have the opportunity to let it be known that there is no shame in enjoying sex the way you want to have it (as long as it’s consensual adults, etc.). Instead of doing good, they are choosing to perpetuate the idea that there is something to be ashamed of. It rubs me the wrong way (pun sort of intended).

Perpetually living between the click of a light and the start of a dream.

by hawkeyeguy85 on Nov 18, 2011 10:51 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

I get where you’re coming from with wishing more celebrities would be open about their same sex feelings. I guess it just doesn’t bother me. The same could be said about married men or men who are in heterosexual relationships who want to explore or know that they like both. For whatever reasons, they aren’t ready or willing to make the step towards asserting their sexuality openly. Whether it’s the chains of family ties, background, employment, etc it doesn’t bother me. I wish they would use whatever platform to open minds in their families or through the media famous or not, but I’m cool with them choosing not to.

Perpetually living between the click of a light and the start of a dream.

by hawkeyeguy85 on Nov 18, 2011 10:58 PM CST up reply actions

Gladly

I think that a lot of people are not wholly homo or heterosexual. But since our society views sexuality as a dichotomy our notions of relationships and monogamy cause bisexuals to deny themselves the experiences of one sex. I think that’s wrong. However, I believe that if you commit to a person you should commit to them within their sex. So if you’re a bisexual male and you’re dating a woman she should be the only woman with whom you have sex but you should be allowed to sleep with men.

by PackerHawk on Nov 18, 2011 11:07 PM CST up reply actions

Really? Hmmm....

That is a really interesting viewpoint. So should the woman in this scenario be made aware?

Perpetually living between the click of a light and the start of a dream.

by hawkeyeguy85 on Nov 18, 2011 11:08 PM CST up reply actions

Ideally

It would fit with my belief that sound relationships are built in open and honest communication. Then again, I’m 100% homosexual in my sexual attractions so it’s easy for me to espouse those beliefs.

But my non-interventionist feelings would keep me from outing somebody who is cheating on somebody of the opposite sex.

by PackerHawk on Nov 18, 2011 11:12 PM CST up reply actions

Again, not judging...

But isn’t that a bit of a man-centric view? I feel bad for the girl in this situation (though, this is a prime example why all of you women out there need to befriend a gay man so you don’t end up marrying a homo).

by hawkeyeguy85 on Nov 18, 2011 11:17 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Yes, it's man-centric

Because I’m a man and my experience is with bi men in straight relationships. It would go the same way for a bisexual woman.

It’s funny though, the friends I had who made a relationship work this way were a hetero male and a bisexual female. He was her only man but she dated other women. Then again, when you’re in a circle that goes to raves and uses ecstasy weekly sexual lines are not very rigid.

Next gen console will be out sometime in 2012. There isn’t a title left for the Wii. But really nothing for the new one either. Nintendo is really in a nebulous spot right now. I have no idea what their current business strategy is. Metroid other M was good but not great. Since Nintendo got away from developing their first party titles they have really struggled to make a splash.

Even if OSU is overrated they are vastly better than any team on our schedule much less one we've beaten

How is acknowledging that a team who will likely have the same record, beat us head to head, play in a significantly better conference, and has a better marquee win is better a sign that he’s not a true Hawkeye fan? By what metric is our season better? Would you get mad if he suggested that, like, Alabama was better too?

by NorseHawk on Nov 19, 2011 12:02 AM CST up reply actions

Here is my main problem.

You want to say “nice win, ISU.” Then great.

You want to use it as another way to grouse about Iowa football (in a season where we will be, at worst, .500 overall and 3-5 in conference), then quit pretending you’re a Hawkeye fan.

well, look

Pretty much everybody’s definition of somebody being a dick is when that person is arrogant, unforgiving, and blunt in their disagreements with or disapproval of somebody. This is you, including in the comment I’m replying to. I made a joke using “nasty, brutish, and short” earlier, but here is the unjoking, exact reason I think you come across as a dick.

IMO, you’re not evil in your dickishness like an 80s movie bully, you’re more just a dick at heart that generally is correct, even when being a dick about it. The movie example I’d give is Affleck’s best friend in Chasing Amy. So you have a decent acting career ahead of you, which is a good thing.

by WaterlooChazz on Nov 19, 2011 12:40 AM CST up reply actions

Ok I realize I am WAAAYY late to the party but whatever,

I’m not really sure why Chazz and Catnuts are berating Norse. From what I could gather this whole thing stemmed from Norse saying something along the lines of “Iowa State is having a more impressive season than us,” which is something I think is absolutely true.

Then Chazz brought up the Minny game and Norse said that that game was an embarrassment, which is something that will be true forever. That was a bad game. I myself am not dwelling on that loss at all, I’m just acknowledging a fact that I think most Iowa fans would agree with. I don’t see how you can accuse Norse of dwelling on a loss a month later when you yourself brought up the loss in the first place…

And I don’t see how trying to specifically point out how someone is a dick multiple times is anything BUT dickish in itself. Especially when the other person’s response is confusion.

I also don’t think anyone has the authority to tell someone to stop rooting for Iowa just because they were impressed by Iowa State or if they cheer for ISU when they don’t play Iowa.

There is no way that Paki rushes for nine yards. -KenOKeefeIfuckinghateyou.

I think you may have missed my main point.

My main point was, ISU got a big win last night. Maybe their biggest win ever. So, we, as “classy” Iowa fans, should not turn it into a chance to say “I can’t believe our season isn’t going as well as theirs” when we actually have an OK record.

And Norse may not be a dick, but he does get angry pretty easy around here, at least toward me. And apparently Catnuts feels the same. I hope you can see I was trying to mostly be empathetic and humorous toward Norse.

We will become more intensity!!! --What Reading Rambler thinks Tom Brands should do.

I don't think it's correct that ISU

is “having a better season” than Iowa is. They beat Iowa in their own building by 3 in 3 overtimes. They were barely able to beat Kansas at home, and had two weeks to get ready for what is essentially a carbon copy of last years Michigan State team.

If you want to say their win on Friday night was the best win by either team this year, you’ll get no argument from me. But to say that they’re having a better year seems a bit much.

The ball should not bounce away from us.

It should not rain when we do not want it to.

The other team’s fans should be nice and quiet at all times.

Iowa State should not beat Okie State.

The Hawkeyes should win all their games and immediately ascend to Heaven for a game against 1949 Notre Dame, which we should win, even if God starts the Domers with a 40-point lead.

Yeah.

The Fainting Irish was/were in 1953.

I just went back and chose an undefeated team from just after WWII, as the possible “greatest ND team ever.” I’m not really sure which ND team was actually the best.

Also, in other terrific news,

per Mas Casa:

Canzeri did not travel, Coker is banged up, and we’ll probably see McCall waste his redshirt play.

Well if the other option is, like, not playing with a running back I'm not sure how it's a waste

Can’t believe a guy who we ran straight into the line like 600 times this year is hurt though. A truly shocking turn of events.

by NorseHawk on Nov 18, 2011 11:51 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah.

It seems like a waste because he could’ve seen action what, three weeks ago? Which would also likely have kept Coker from getting so banged up. Just dumb.

HEY ROGERS!

DISCOUNT DOUBLE-TRUCK!

Also, let’s see some DeAndre Johnson! And isn’t Jason White second on the depth chart?

McCall and Canzeri have more carries,

but McCall has played in one game. Canzeri 6. White, 10.

I'm saying

that White is second on the depth chart, and has played in more games. And will probably get a chance to carry the ball before McCall, and at least as much chance as Canzeri, tomorrow.

As long as they all avoid fumbling, I don’t really care who gets the backup carries tomorrow.

Well I would hope he has as many chances as the guy who isn't making the trip

Having few carries than guys who have played in fewer games is a sign that the coaching staff is not too keen on playing him at running back, even if he sees more PT on kick coverage or whatever. He hasn’t been the first RB off the bench all year.

I don't think we've given any backup tailbacks

very many carries since the Monroe game.

Sure, but when we do, it's never Jason White

Despite him being listed as the 2nd back on the depth chart. Which was my point.

who the hell did I run into at Joe's Place?!

btw, I’m severely pissed off so choose your responses responsibly

and that's another Hawkeye first down... EHAWW!!

Chazz

is the most punchable name in the world

by GreatBarrierReiff on Nov 19, 2011 1:34 AM CST reply actions

More than Lawrence?

Either way, deciding on punching a person because of something their parent did x number of years ago seems odd. Unless they did it to you.

It is short for my actual name,

because this is the Internet.

And actually, I think the name Lawrence is cool. I think if I ever have a kid, it would be kind of cool to be able to call him “Larry.” Also, in my previous neighborhood, one of my neighbors down the street was a cool old dude named Lawrence.
