Hamsterdam Wants Its Day In The Sun (Beast)
So West Virginia is heading to the Big XII? Sure, why not. Every move brings us one step closer to the creation of this beauty:

Anyway, here's your open thread for the evening. There's Sun Beast Belt football on ESPN2, World Series... of Poker on ESPN, hockey on somewhere, and a bunch of other regular Tuesday programming. Or whatever.

That might be the one thing to stop this Super Conference business.
Delaney and Slive must be laughing their asses off, trying to think of some way to keep from ever have their conference mentioned in the same sentence as those yokels.

It would be good for them, though.
As Dr. Saturday notes:
There’s still a chance (possibly a distant one, but a real one) that a colossus consisting of the Mountain West, Conference USA and the Big East could sustain an automatic BCS bid. The tentative plan, according to the Boston Globe, is a 28 or 32-team league split into four divisions, the winners of which would meet over the last two weekends of the regular season in a mini-playoff for the bid, which frankly sounds like kind of a great idea for everyone involved: It opens access to more schools without adding another slice to the pay, and thereby also increases the competitiveness — i.e. undefeated Boise State (of Houston, or Hawaii, who whomever happens to be the hot upstart du jour) gets the automatic bid out of a huge pool of teams instead of unranked UConn out of a very small one, which would also free up a coveted at-large bid that would have gone to undefeated Boise State for the traditional power conferences. That’s not as good as a playoff (which the Mountain West still wants, for the record), but it is a proactive solution to a lot of problems.
Instead of Boise and UConn taking up two BCS spots, we’d only get one of them (probably Boise, since they were actually, y’know, good) in and free up another spot for the Big Ten/SEC.

I was mulling over the faux play-in that would set up.
But not nearly as much as Dr. Saturday. After reading that I hope they do it. Seriously. I agree heartily, better for all involved. Nobody has to laugh at UConn anymore, if Boise is good they get a chance to prove it, but not until they beat the best lower division teams. For real, let’s do this.

I think a 32-team league
would be a great cue for the remaining “Big 5” to ditch the NCAA altogether.

Why?
If it allows them to preserve the current status quo with minimum fuss, it’s a good thing for them. They don’t have much interest in upsetting the apple cart.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
I don't know if I buy it.
The real conferences don’t have to put up with the shit from the Big East or Boise. TCU is in the B12 now, and can see how 245 DL hold up over the course of a year. Looks like Delaney is a genius. He picked up Nebraska, the SEC got stuck with aTm, and everybody else lost their fricking wig and got rid of 50% of the bullshit teams in the BCS for him.

If you had said to me
at the beginning off all of this that the SEC would end up with A&M and Mizzou, I would have laughed. Not at you, but at the SEC.

I would love it if the MWC/C-USA told the Big East to go screw themselves
The Big East is trying to poach their members. But this is pretty much the Big East also trying to tag along since they know that if they can’t poach anyone, they’re fucked
Good Evening.
I’m bored. No homework, no interview prep, no reading, no case studies, no studying, no work. WTF do I do?

Well, I drive a forklift and have to drop fairly often and randomly.
So that brings me to booze. I’m polishing off the rest of this private stock, won’t be much more than buzzworthy and I am too lazy to go to the store tonight.

i dont like live poker
at least when im taking it seriously. its fun to goof around with friends or play drunk 1/2 cash at casinos, but online is so much better for trying to make money. can play lots of tables at once, hands are dealt faster, don’t have to go anywhere, etc.
as someone who learned online, everything about live thats standard for people who learned in casinos is foreign to me. you have to spend time stacking chips, figuring out peoples chip stacks, figure out how much is in the pot, what your position is in the tournament, making sure to protect your cards, not giving off any tells. when i play live i find myself so focused on so much other shit besides reading people. plus its just so goddamn slow.
The wait for College basketball and wrestling is to the point where it is getting physically painful

I'm really excited about basketball.
I’m shooting for .500 but I can’t wait to be 2-3 teams we should get stomped by.

yeah it needs to be basketball season
football season has been more than a bit depressing
That has to be a first as a Northwestern fan.
Is this going to really truly finally be the year they make the NCAA tourney?

the whole team needs to stay healthy
there is a solid core but very little depth. NU has at most 8 legitimate scholarship players, and thats assuming both freshman point guards can contribute right away. they really can’t afford any injuries at all.
I think PG is the only spot where Iowa is REALLY thin this year.
We can’t afford to have anything happen to Cartwright, obviously.
I guess center is kind of weak, too, but at least we can go to a smaller, quicker line-up if we get bad fortune there.

Are they playing college football on every night of the week except Monday now?
When did that happen? I let Thursday night go without much of a fuss but this Tuesday night business is just plan silly.
Some people are willing to do whatever it takes to get on ESPN, apparently.

Shut up and enjoy it.
I personally loved it when it started happening about 5 years ago. But I’m the person who stays up until 1 or 2 to watch the last PAC12 and WAC games on saturdays. I don’t care what conference or day of the week it is, more college football is a good thing!
Yep.
It won’t be long and we’ll be crying in our beer about no football.

The only plus-side of having the NBA season derailed
is the NBA network is showing the 1993 Playoffs. Just watched Jordan drop 50+ on a John Starks-led Knicks team and now I’m watching the KJ/Majerle/Barkley Suns face the Rain Man and The Glove. Good memories.

Scrabble fun
I just won a game of Scrabble with my wife and her parents. I ran away with it on my very first turn when I played PEDERAST across a triple word score. Her father challenged it and I had to explain what the word meant before they looked it up. Awkward times.
