Congrats, Derrell.

And good luck in the Draft
This is a huge boon to his draft stock (as in he may now get drafted rather than being a FA). Now if KF lets him back in the facilities or pro day workouts it would be even better, not sure that can happen but it would be nice.

It can.
But it won’t.

I think he'll have to absolutely explode at the Texas vs Nation game to get drafted.
Teams will use the drama as an excuse to let him slip into FA and avoid shelling out draft monies. He shouldn’t have any trouble making a roster, though.

It would be nice if he was allowed to use an Iowa helmet in that game now.
Not gonna hold my breath on that one, of course.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
I agree. Although, I'm not sure that he was ever not allowed.
I think the only report was that he didn’t have a team issued helmet. Maybe he kept one after a season and he planned to use it. Solomon had an Iowa helmet sitting on his coffee table during his days in Iowa City. I can’t imagine that the players would ever have any reason to take a helmet home.

It would make a nice bowl.
Not that kind of bowl. It would be pretty wobbly on a coffee table though, and you would get chips all over the place.

I will gladly let him use my autographed helmet
if he autographs it also.

He will get drafted
The idea that the NFL will let him go FA to save money is just silly. All 32 teams would need to collude on that, and that would never happen, there’s already too little talent for too many roster slots. Besides, it’s not like a draft slot is going to go unfilled. Somebody will get that cash.
“And with the 43rd pick, the New York Jets pick nobody, but we’re all going to pretend they drafted DJK. This way they can save the league a little scratch when somebody picks him up as a free agent. "

I'm not sure you understand Mexicant's statement or the Draft in general
1) Anyone given a draft spot gets guaranteed money for showing up to training camp. It’s nominal money for the last few rounds, but it’s still something and better than showing up on what amounts to a day-to-day contract (with fewer protections) as a FA
2) Teams will be looking at dozens of WRs with similar skill sets to DJK, and they’ll always take the guy with less issues if all else is equal. DJK does not have the ability of the guys who get these kinds of things overlooked. It’s a question of who gets those last draft spots that makes him less likely to be drafted.

This is exactly the point I was attempting to make.
Now, if DJK stands out above other receivers enough for a team to use a draft pick, then great. But most teams have enough holes to fill that they can take a player at a different position knowing that they’ll have a shot at DJK as a FA. And, in the end, it may be the best thing for DJK. Maybe he doesn’t get the guaranteed money, but a FA gets to choose from multiple suitors instead of being satisfied with their draft location. Of course, as a FA he’ll also have to bust his ass to ensure his roster spot over any drafted WRs. All that said, I definitely think he’ll make a roster and look forward to watching him play on Sundays.

I have never had any issues with DJK's hustle on the field
He runs precise routes, even when he is not the primary receiver and he is a good down-field blocker. His biggest problem at Iowa is that he was very candid in his comments to the coaches and media; which kept him firmly entrenched in Ferentz’s doghouse. Yet even during this period of time when the team abandoned him and many fans and media folk trashed him, DJK had nothing but respectful things to say about the Hawkeyes and his teammates. If he is viewed and anything other than a class act by the pro scouts then something is rotten in Denmark
"You’re talking about things that are real. That’s real. In those other dual meets, it wasn’t real, but now it’s real." ~ Tom Brands regarding the Iowa State dual.
I think he'll fit right in with other NFL wideouts.
And I doubt that any of the GMs will be too put-off by his attitude. Considering the rave reviews he got from the media when he was able to speak to them, I suspect DJK will do extremely well during the interview portion of the combine (assuming he’s invited). Before the drama he was a likely 3rd/4th round pick, so watching him fall off the boards entirely is kind of insane. If GMs are willing to take today’s ruling and run with it, then DJK may very well get drafted.

DJK is true class in my book, and he will always be a hawkeye to me
he made a mistake, hes human, but compared to other mistakes made by others at the University of Iowa its really nothing.
really, if Cam Newton can whore himself to schools and still be considered a first rounder, i dont see why someone wont take a risk on DJK, if not in the draft than as a free agent.

And I'm sure by terms of the CBA
you must use all draft spots and pay the guaranteed amounts.
P.S.: haven’t the Vikes been picked on enough with the Bears & Packers success this season? And the purple gear? And the silliness of having an owner named Zygi?

Funny, both choices (the previous year with missing onSims and getting McKinnie)...
…ended up working out really well for them. McKinnie and Kevin Williams have both been Pro Bowlers. Ryan Sims and Byron Leftwish… not so much.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
After his latest tweet (quickly removed though it was)

Hopefully
this will “close the book” and a rather sordid chapter of DJK’s career. I hope that he is able to move past all this and get on with his life and find success in the NFL.

And CF boards will be blowing up now
with the Everson verdict and the DJK plea deal. Some variation of “All Iowa players can get away with whatever they want because the court system is bought” will be showing up within the next 5 minutes

I think, from the TV coverage, that the judge in the Everson case was wearing a brown robe (or an old, faded black one). Here is a pic, you be the judge (ha ha):

Four of them for $75 and the game is only 175 miles away. But my outlaws in-laws are coming to visit this weekend and I have to entertain them instead. Sucks. It would’ve been my one chance to see some Hawks play football this year in vision larger than a 46" widescreen…

do we even have to care about it? At that point, if they ruin their eligibility by accepting “free” legal services, I don’t care. They would probably trade any time at a small school for the chance to stay out of “da clink.”
