BHGP ROADSHOW INFO **NEW EDIT (8/13)**

Because we probably owe you people an update on this road game tailgate business.  After careful study of the poll results from a few weeks ago and then disregarding them and just doing whatever the hell we wanted (not really), the plan for the official BHGP road game tailgate is the Minnesota game.  It's a tiny 15-minute trip for me and HS is tentatively planning to make the arduous trek up I-35 to that shindig; sadly, Herr Jacobi probably won't be able to join us thanks to his weekend editor duties for our kindly SB Nation overlords.  Exact details will be sorted out in the weeks and months to come.

Meanwhile, we don't want our fair Chicagoland fans to feel slighted, so even if the Minny game is the "official" tailgate, we're still open to doing something for the jNW game as well.  The idea of securing an entire section of BHGP faithful at Ryan Field is still intriguing.  To that end, if you're seriously interested in attending that game as part of a BHGP group, let me know.  Shoot me an email (bhgp.rosswb@gmail.com) indicating how many tickets you're interested in and we'll see if we can't get something nailed down in the next few weeks.  Again: SERIOUS INTEREST ONLY.

8/11 EDIT: Just to clarify something -- the group ticket deal ($20 tickets if we're in a group of 25+) is ONLY for the jNW game.  Minnesota is, to the best of my knowledge, NOT making group tickets available for that game.  We're strictly doing a tailgate for the Minnesota game.

8/13 EDIT: UPDATE ON THE NORTHWESTERN GAME

Unfortunately, the news is not ideal.  When I spoke to the Northwestern ticket office people today they informed me that they were sold out of the group rate tickets and that those tickets ($20) are no longer available.  When I spoke to them last week they were available, so clearly they sold far better than I had anticipated.  I apologize for that and for not getting ahead of this a few weeks ago when we may have had a chance to get those tickets.

However, while the (cheap) BHGP invasion of Ryan Field has now been postponed indefinitely (or at least until the next time Iowa plays at jNW, whenever that may be), the possibility for a (slightly more expensive) BHGP invasion of Ryan Field is still on the table.  I was informed that they still have plenty of $35 seats available in the endzone and that they would be able to accomodate an entire group sitting together (though not, obviously, at the aforementioned group rate of $20).  There are also more expensive seats available along the sidelines ($40-50), although not in large bunches.  As we would just be buying standard tickets, there's no magic number of tickets sold that we need to reach (i.e., 25 for the $20 group rate), so if people aren't interested in buying at the higher rate, that's perfectly fine.  Or if people would prefer to buy them individually, that's also more than fine.  But if people are interested in sitting together as a BHGP bloc, we can still accomodate that.  If not, we're still going to try to assemble some sort of BHGP get-togethers before and/or after the game, even with the apparent dismal tailgating scene at Ryan Field.

So, again, I apologize that the $20 group rate ticket deal fell through.  I was really hoping to do things that way.  But the opportunity is still on the table, albeit at a higher rate than before.  $35 is still likely to be the cheapest ticket to an Iowa game this year (outside of student tickets or perhaps scalping them after the game has started), so it's not a BAD deal... just not as good as the initial deal.

Let me know where you stand now:

1) I am no longer interested in attending the jNW tailgate or game.

2) I am interested in attending just the jNW tailgate.

3) I am interested in attending the jNW tailgate and game but will acquire my own tickets.

4) I am interested in attending the jNW tailgate and game as part of a BHGP bloc ($35 tickets).

Again, I apologize for the change in plans and hope the new options are something that still interest you (and if not, no hard feelings).

Unless otherwise expressly indicated by BHGP editors, this FanPost is strictly the viewpoint of the author and is not endorsed by BHGP in any way.

Thanks Ross.

The jNW game is a no-brainer and for the rare Iowa fan who plans on traveling to the game and doesn’t know someone in Chicago who they can stay with, the Hotel McCann’t figures to be open. There are three beds and a couch (Ooh! College!) up for grabs. Shoot me an email, we’ll talk.

Oh, and I will most-fucking-certainly be hosting a Friday night, pre-game BBQ/drunken orgy for those interested.

I appreciate the comments from Los Hermanos Can't.

But I need email addresses from you guys if you’re interested in tix. (I already have an email address for you, Kyle, but for organization purposes a quick email would be helpful.) I would like to hash out the details of this project over email and not on the blog itself.

I am in for both games and will hopefully bring my son. I will take (2) tickets if we are in a block. If not I would attend the tailgate, pre-game and any other BHGP sponsored activity.

Actually, that brings up a topic

It’s a little early to be working on the tailgating plans, but, I haven’t been there for several years, and as we all know, the tailgating scene is best described as “tailgating”. Is is possible to essentially reserve a section of one of the lots they use? Bare minimum, we’ll need to decide on one to meet at.

As this thing is still months away

I haven’t exactly decided on actual BBQ per se. I would like to grill out obviously, but given Chicago’s penchant for truly unpredictable weather it could be raining, snowing or 80 degrees out. I just don’t want folks getting up hopes for something that I can’t deliver on.

On that subject, if there’s over 10 people coming to my place (and I have no idea what to expect at this point) would it be gauche to request a small “cover” of $5, for example? I’m still likely to end up well in the red after alcohol and food, but that could lessen the blow a bit. I just don’t know if that would be Kosher. Thoughts?

I'm still shocked

that at the low, low price of $20 that this place isn’t flooded with people clamoring to go. I mean, we all know the place will be packed with fellow Hawkeyes anyway. Might as well make sure they make as little money off of us as possible as well.

I think it's the fact that it's 3 months away

We have every intention of going but committing to it today is tricky.

We will mos def attend the MPLS Meat-Up though.

8/13 UPDATE

UPDATE ON THE NORTHWESTERN GAME

As we would just be buying standard tickets, there’s no magic number of tickets sold that we need to reach (i.e., 25 for the $20 group rate), so if people aren’t interested in buying at the higher rate, that’s perfectly fine. Or if people would prefer to buy them individually, that’s also more than fine. But if people are interested in sitting together as a BHGP bloc, we can still accomodate that. If not, we’re still going to try to assemble some sort of BHGP get-togethers before and/or after the game, even with the apparent dismal tailgating scene at Ryan Field.

So, again, I apologize that the $20 group rate ticket deal fell through. I was really hoping to do things that way. But the opportunity is still on the table, albeit at a higher rate than before. $35 is still likely to be the cheapest ticket to an Iowa game this year (outside of student tickets or perhaps scalping them after the game has started), so it’s not a BAD deal… just not as good as the initial deal.

#4.

I’m still looking at a minimum of 4 & up to 8. Let’s close in on this ASAP so we’re not left out!

Balls

We may be going back to our original plan and making the trip to the IC for the ISU game.

Waiting to hear from my buddy

Then I will email you. I am leaning toward 4 but I will have to see what he says and then I will let you know.

I am a #3....

…..and bought my tickets yesterday off the NW site.

There are only a few decent tickets left on the sidelines, and by decent I mean 10 yard line about 30 rows up. The best I saw any further upfield at the 25 were in row 72 and are probably gone by now, anyway.

In other words, they’re going pretty fast, I think—and probably from Hawk fans, I hope. Hard to believe the game’s THREE months away! I would not be surprised to see this one almost sell out with Iowa fans. I think the paucity of Kinnick tickets available is making this a game for some people to see perhaps as their only chance to see the boys in person this year. I really wonder if we won’t see 22,000 NW fans and 24,000 Iowa fans there.

In other words, even for end zone seating, I wouldn’t waste too much time. This is becoming kind of a “must see” game for some.

So is this your home game then instead of ISU?

Since Kinnick East is easier for you to get to than the real Kinnick.

Work f'd me on that Iowa State game

so yes…though Kinnick is five modes of transportation for me to get to (car, train, cab, plane, rental car and a subway might be thrown in there too if traffic is bad) I am more than willing to make the trek. This is just going to work out better for me from the ticket angle and I recruited a friend to join me (I think).

St. Lukes Hospital in CR +1

St. Lukes Hospital in CR put together a bus trip for their employees at a great rate and it quickly sold out.

Ride the bus on Friday morning, spend the day in Chicago, hit the Friday night Hawkeye Huddle with the Hawkeye Marching Band for their annual road trip game, night in Skokie, tailgate on Saturday and ride home feeling pretty darn good about ourselves.

only explanation i can come up with is good clean livin! GO HAWKS!!!

I wish I could only remember the good old days!

Sounds like my trip

Except I board a plane in Spokane, WA at 6 AM, land in Seattle at 7 AM then get on another plane about 9 AM and land in Chicago about 2:45 PM. Have a fun filled time with other BHGP members in Chicago on Friday night, then go to the game on Saturday, board a plane on Sunday and feel wonderful having spent a weekend with other Hawk fans and experiencing a Hawk victory.

Is anyone going to the ISU game?

Don’t really know anyone in the IC anymore and would like to find a good tailgate.

There's always the Magic Bus

Nevermind.

If you can abide by a “no douchebags” rule and don’t mind hanging out with at least one Cyclone fan and a bunch of grad students, send me an email when we get closer to the game.
