The most I hope for this season
The SMA and confessions threads have codified in my mind what I really hope for the Hawks this season. SMA said he's in it for the national championship. While I think a national championship would be great that is not my goal. I do believe the means are the end. That said, I have had this image going through my head for months, and I hope by confessing it here, I can get on with all I have to do. Here it is:
The Hawks are undefeated going into the Ohio State game. We go into the 4th quarter knowing we have a great shot (down by 7 at the worst, up by however much at the best). Everyone is cheering and screaming and the players and coaches are ready to go. Then, the people in charge of these things are suddenly overcome by some mind altering disease and they play this very loudly as the players take the field for the 4th quarter:

And then it starts to snow.

crowd starts up
Rage is playing in the background! I’m loving this thought more and more. All Hell, can’t stop us now!
You just captured what goes through my mind...
…at the start of every… single… game. Well played sir.
Oh, and +1 on the Ace Ventura mosh pic.

The Hawks live and die by the offensive and defensive lines,
and the O line is may be OK, or may not be. I believe the good news is if the team can only have one of the two lines dominate, it’s better to have the D line be that one. We’ll just have to see how many points the offense can score, and how many takeaways the defense can get.

Chewie? Fab.
RATM was one of two bands I ever wanted to see live. Finally got tickets to see them and Beastie Boys. Beastie drummer broke his arm, tour was cancelled, and Rage broke up. Never been more sad.
If one were an optimist about it
you could say that the possibility is there for this to be an unreal team.
1.) Jewel Hampton could play with the rage of a man all hopped up on Bud Light and sink Big Ten teams like the were ping pong balls into keg cups.
2.) Our OL could be rather impressive…by most accounts the last couple years James Ferentz was the best C on our roster…and Reiff has the potential to be the best LT we’ve had since Gallery…Vandervelde should be better…and the other unknown commodities could turn out to be pretty solid.
3.) The Hat could become the greatest offensive weapon we’ve had since Dallas Clark.
4.) With an extra 10-15 pounds Ballard could start eating opposing lineman leaving Tarp to do what he does best and either drop back into coverage or chase down running backs who are fleeing toward their own goal line in fear of our DL.
5.) Instead of playing Black Eyed Peas they could start playing Rage at Kinnick and then the University could decide that rather than trying to curb the drinking around the stadium…they’ll actually start showering fans in beer with fire hoses before, during and after games…leading to crowds of grown men dancing with no shirts and taking in the grainy goodness. Also it could lead to unruly fans from the opposing team get the Commando 450 treatment…

I wonder how just how much backlash
there would be if RATM were to be used. Would the more advanced in years (and dollars) people throw a fit? Would RATM themselves throw a fit? Is it impossible to play a song if the band doesn’t want it played?
