New Parking Lot Rules
This week I saw part of a news report that said that the Magic Bus had been forced to move. So I thought since I haven't heard anything about it I figured someone here would know about this terrible situation. The report also mentioned that the University was going to be changing tailgating rules for the parking lots. I've been checking the official website and haven't found anything. If anyone knows about this please bring me up to speed.

Magic Bus is not due to new rules
or at least not yet.
The owners of the house where the Bus parked sold that dump, and the new owners wanted something like double the rent. They were going to shut it down until they thought they’d found a spot off of Woodside, somewhat near the old Olive Court site (though one’s not readily accessible from the other). From what I understand, their application for a permit to run at the new site has been resisted by the typical group of local gomers who has no better thing to do than bug me.
As for new tailgating rules, the cop who threw me out of the spring game (twice, technically) went out of his way to say they were allowing drinking during game days. Take it as you may; the University has had an anti-tailgating fetish for years.
Before you respond, let me remind you: Brian Cook called me smug, which makes me the Obama of smugness. I'm basically Smugbama.
Is the new site still in Iowa City or in University Heights?
I’ve always seemed to not get around to going to the magic bus (in my defense, I usually tailgate at Finkbine). Now I may never get to go…
As far as the new policies, I foresee an education and media campaign for a season or two before any new regulations. The 21-only faction willbe busy fighting to keep the new ordinance in place in the November elections and will hopefully put tailgating on the backburner. Also, University Heights should be opposed to pushing the party out of the lots, because it will go across the tracks into even more front yards. Iowa City could also reasonably want to keep the lots as the best option for similar reasons.
The new site's in Iowa City, I'm pretty sure.
I think the new site is in the parking lot of an apartment complex where I lived for a summer. If so, it’s pretty close to Kinnick and the rest of the tailgating scene, although it is a little out of the way.

Here a message I got from Jeremy who runs the Bus.
It’s kind of hard to read, but worth the time.
Hey folks, many of you are wondering what happened at the Magic Bus forum and what the city zoning committee have decided. The answer is that the middle of this week the city will decide whether to grant a permit to the Magic Bus to operate. The city has basically said we have a tough sell to the people who showed up to voice their opinion against the Magic Bus. These opponents didn’t actually come to listen or to compromise; they came to attach a negative image of the Magic Bus and stereotype the Magic Bus and its patrons as rowdy, drunken nuisances to the community. They also pointed the finger at the Magic Bus patrons as the people who wander around randomly urinating and puking on the properties down along Olive Ct. I’m fairly certain that the 1% of all tailgaters we represent isn’t the cause of these issues they refer to. It would make sense to me that a 1000 cars whose destination is Olive Ct. neighborhood and their tailgaters and friends they invite over are more likely the culprits. Yet the city seems to expect the Magic Bus bare the burden of the proof. It’s tough to get through to people or the city when this neighborhood’s parking giants have cast such an ugly shadow upon us. I ask the Magic Bus patrons again to let the papers and the city zoning know that we are not the monsters they described in this meeting, in the papers, or the commentary on these articles about the forum. The Magic Bus is full of hard working adults, Hawk fans, live music supporters, above the age of 21. That means old enough to drink and old enough to vote. Maybe it is time for the city to look at the residents opposing the bus to see if what they are doing is any different to their neighbors opposing parking and tailgating on gameday. Do your neighbors agree how you tailgate? Do you have a permit? Do you pay the proper taxes on money earned from parking cars? I don’t know the answer I guess, but if I said, "no" then I’m just making speculations like them. The one thing most people pro bus, anti-bus, or neutral agree on is that if the city denies the Magic Bus its permit it will set the stage for the city and the university to change the landscape of tailgating forever. The repercussions will be felt all over Kinnickville and the ability of the Magic Bus to ever operate again severely compromised. We got a tough sell is right. I think it would be an easier to get Hayden Fry to agree to a Cyclone tattoo.

Sounds like the Magic Bus is going to be round one of the City/UI versus tailgating culture
But it should be an example of what they want to change tailgating to, over 21 and taxpaying. I agree that residents of Olive Ct need to talk to their neighbors about the issues on Olive Ct.
Agreed.
I have frequented both Olive Ct. and the Magic Bus at its previous location, and I can say that for me the Bus was the better place to be.

Thank you.
That answers most of my question. The story I saw was on KCRG, and was sad to hear what the city is doing to the Magic Bus. The report I saw mentioned that University owned lots were going to have a new set of rules yet to be determined this year. I had been planning to split my time between my Aunts yard on Koser and the lot at Finkbine, but I might just stay on Koser if it’s going to be a hassle.
I'm not here for a long time, I'm here for a good time.
