[Bumped. This is satire, right?--AJ]
I thought y'all would enjoy this, especially these gems:
While travel concerns are not prominent at this level of football, the geographic congruence of ISU to the conference's current footprint will help with budgets for wrestling, track, and the many "Olympic" sports that are so important in big time college athletics today.
and:
If the Big 12 disbands and ISU joins a conference other than the Big Ten it's likely the sport may need to be cut which will hurt wrestling nationally thus diminishing a proud tradition of the Big Ten.
Fire away.

C’mon guys, we really really really want to be your conveniently located whipping children. We have everything you explicitly say you want (but nothing that i$ implied when di$cu$$ing expan$ion). Please please please.
Somebody should tell them...
The B10 already has enough tomato cans.

I'm willing to trade straight up for Indiana. Seriously, right now.
Hahahahahaha, just kidding I would never do that to Conference USA.
As far as wrestling goes...
it’s not uncommon for smaller sports like that to band together in unusual conference affiliations that have little or no resemblance to the football or basketball conference compositions. Look at the Pac 10:
- Arizona State
- Boise State
- Cal Poly
- Cal State Bakersfield
- Cal State Fullerton
- Oregon State
- Stanford
- UC Davis
And arrangements like that aren’t uncommon in the BXI, either — just take a look at hockey.
In short: it seems like it would be possible for ISU’s wrestling team to compete in the BXI while the other sports competed in other leagues.
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
Is anyone a little surprised that Jamie Pollard (or someone else)
hasn’t leaked fake ISU to Big Ten/Pac Ten/etc. information in an effort to inflate ISU’s value before all this goes down?
I know the other conferences wouldn’t be stupid enough to believe a rumor that the Big Ten wanted ISU, but it seems like the exact type of attention plea that would come from someone who built a billboard in eastern Iowa after a single football win.
I’m not even sure it would necessarily be a bad move. Anything to get a leg up on KU and KSU, you know?

Nobody would ever believe it.
Before you respond, let me remind you: Brian Cook called me smug, which makes me the Obama of smugness. I'm basically Smugbama.
So your saying that ISU is coming to the BigTen?
Wait until I tell certain Kansas City newspapers.
Who's leg do I have to hump to get a drink around here?-Brian
The Big 10 wrestling tradition
will be hurt if ISU is dumped? Ummm…no. I think it will survive just fine.
It never gets to be easy
Yeah, it's not the mid-70s anymore.
They haven’t exactly been putting together a streak of titles. Since Iowa’s first title in ’75, Iowa State has won twice, the Big Ten has won 26 times (thanks to Minnesota for padding the stats).
Yeah, they matriculated the 2 most successful collegiate wrestlers of all time......
And they BOTH left ISU for the BigTen!
Who's leg do I have to hump to get a drink around here?-Brian
What makes ISU think they're good enough to join a BCS Conference?
Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.

Congruent
They must have been reading the word of the day from Readers Digest to come up with that word.
Carpe Diem! - Seize the Carp!
I would be super pissed if ISU weaseled their way into the Big 10.
I hope they are able to stay in a BCS conference, however not if it means them joining us in the Big 10.
I've been known to simultaneously hate and defend ISU,
but lord, they’re not helping themselves here. From the Facebook page:
We don’t deserve this potential fate – somebody, anybody, help us out and do what’s right. We need a home in a BCS conference, and more than anything we need our country’s media to at least take note of our plight.
and
Recent News: None…just the sound of thousands of Iowa State fans’ prayers to the sports gods for justice.
Of all the angles to take on this, I don’t think “pleading and pathetic” is the one that’s going to land them in a power conference.

This might endear them to the Big East
but only if the lose Connecticut or something. People out East like to whine (I live in NYC).
Next update...
The sound of running water you hear is from the weeping of our fans.

I think I hear a tiny violin playing somewhere in there too.

Oh God
How I love to see the Ames folks grovel. Enjoy the MAC! I heard Build another website about how good your girls are at dodgeball, cornhole, chess, ping pong, etc. This is some great entertainment! I’m just happy they’re not “elite athletes”, I would hate for them “to steal our thunder”. I heard the Missouri Valley Conference maybe willing to talk but is seriously concerned about “dumbing down” the entire conference.

McDermott will be pissed if ISU joins the Missouri Valley.
He just quit a job to get away from them clowns, and now they follow him there?
Who's leg do I have to hump to get a drink around here?-Brian
As funny as that website is....
Missouri isn’t exactly the greatest addition to the big 10 compared to ISU……
While I can't argue in favor of Missouri
at least they help bring the St. Louis and KC tv markets.
It never gets to be easy

That's right, get on your knees...
and prostrate yourselves before us. Pathetic Cyclowns…
I keep having this flashback to the movie New Jack City.
Chris Rock (ISU) is begging for crack (entrance into the BigTen) from Wesley Snipes? BigTen) and he’s on his knees begging and he says “C’mon man I’ll suck your dick”.
Who's leg do I have to hump to get a drink around here?-Brian
I love it...
I hope this is not real, for the Clowns’ sake…
I mean, a year ago, I bet ISU fans were happy to make fun of the Big10, and take pride in being in conference that’s now going to leave them in the dust…
I really, really, really hope the Big10 doesn’t do the easy thing and add ISU, and sticks to quality over quantity. I’m going to champion that they do add ISU, because things tend to happen the exact opposite of how I predict it will happen. So I’m going to try and trick fate…
Er....
Forgot this in my original post, but why would ISU not being in the Big10, and going to some other conference damage the Big10’s reputation, especially with concern to wrestling?
Because failing to add a perennial bridesmaid to a conference at the top of a sport
apparently is a bad thing? I’m not sure the logic on that one. Quite baffled actually. As fliphawk said earlier, I think the BigXI is fine taking their best wrestlers and coaches, we really don’t need the whole barnyard, just the old bulls.
There's no crying in...wait...huh?

I hate Iowa State, but damn it they’re making me feel really sorry for them. Cuss words.
While avoiding any comment that could get this thread shutdown
It’s just more of people who really can’t affect the situation rattling their sabres for various reasons, into which I will not go out of respect of the rules of this site.
Really?
Because I still have no problem hating them. What bothers me most about the thread you link to is the rank hypocrisy of it all. In essence, the ISU argument is this: “If we’re not invited to the Big Ten then it is all about the money and we should sue/have Congress act to punish the Big Ten. Of course, the only reason we want in the BXI is the ridiculous amount of money we would get, which we would suddenly be fine with.”. For all the high-minded talk of the principles involved, their only problem is that they don’t get a piece of the action.

Also nevermind that all those tv dollars they’re complaining about go to keep smaller sports afloat. And believe it or not some athletic departments end up contributing money back to the academic side of the equation.
Challenging their non-profit status is just ridiculous. Athletics is a tool to improve the university. Noone complains about schools with ridiculous endowments from donors being for-profit.

Nebraska fan open letter to Tom Osbourne saying screw Iowa St and Kansas
I came across this and thought it was pretty relevant, especially when you consider how Pollard also tries to rope Iowa fans into buying tickets for other ISU games.
http://lonehuskerfan.blogspot.com/2010/06/dear-tom-osborne.html
That letter brings up some valid points...
“Kept them afloat during the dark years, and they screwed us every chance they got. F ’em.” I could see where they feel that way.

One thing I could never understand
Is just how exactly the Big XII revenue distribution got to be so unequal. In other words, why did schools like ISU, Kansas, et al keep voting with Texas, what did they hope to accomplish by it?
