Well, I asked the BHGP community which game would be the best single home football game weekend to attend and after 1048 votes and 46 comments...I have made my decision. Despite only receiving 5% of the vote, I am going to attend the Iowa State game. Why? Well, I'll tell you.
Game: First, it's a rivalry game which means it has meaning and it is a game that defies point spread. It is a game that strikes fear into the heart of every Iowa fan no matter how big a perceived favorite they may be (though we rarely are willing to admit it). Most importantly for a football weekend, it is a fun win to celebrate. Not to mention that the tailgating is, more or less, a double dip due to the in-state attendance. (I'll be looking for tailgate info once the game draws closer!) The stadium should be rocking...until at least halftime.
Weather: I wanted to attend a game where the weather would not distract me from the game. Early September should be short sleeves. If it becomes a blowout, there will be no complaning about the weather--a distinct possibility later in the year. Nice.
Accomodations: Every hotel in Iowa City is booked solid for the following game weekends: Penn State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State. I was pleasantly surprised to see there was choice the weekend of the Iowa State game. I am very lucky to be staying at Bertha's Rooms for Rent, which comes with a shared claw tub and a fly swatter.
Ticket Availability and Cost: After looking at numerous ticket reseller websites it is clear I can get better than decent seats for the Iowa State game, and at a reasonable price. The closest I could get to the 50-yard line for the more coveted games (PSU, Wisky, OSU) without declaring bankruptcy the Monday after the game, was the goal line (Row Infinity). I don't want to travel all the way to Iowa City and sit in substandard seats but I had to have a ceiling and it was at $200 a ticket. That gets me decent seats next to deliciously hot co-eds with flasks of warm rum that I was told by the reseller they will let me sip out of a shot glass wedged in their cleavage after every first down (Iowa and Iowa State first downs mind you).
So there you go. Thanks as always to my friends at BHGPs!
